So I recently adopted my Husky, Mya, from a shelter. When we brought her home she had an awful stench, so we just assumed it was because she hadn't been bathed yet at the shelther. We gave her a bath and it made the smell WORSE! Its almost a skunk like smell that she has...well after a couple weeks it slowly faded away. But the minute it rained and she was outside in it, the smell came right back. And now today her hair was starting to yellow, so we gave her, her second bath, and the smell is back again?? What can this be caused by? Something I should ask my vet?? She hasn't been sprayed by any skunks here...and it goes away and comes back only when shes wet....any explainations?

Hi Nicci..Noah had an awful smell when we got him too. It gradually went away. But when he takes a bath or gets wet..the smell is there.. smells like poop.. but when he is dry.. you can't really smell anything anymore.. We would dust his coat with some baby powder(vet said ok) in the beginning.. now at 7 mos..you can't tell at all that we have a dog. Ask the vet about the yellowing... but maybe it's just a thing with them.

What are you feeding? That can have a lot to do with it, simply because oils are secreted onto their coats and dogs are sensitive to food. I have spoken to a few people who saw the problem go away when they switched to a premium quality food.

| Could very easily be from a previous run in with a skunk but wasn't cleaned properly/good enough after the spraying. It will eventually run its course but yeah it'll seem like forever.

Also have your vet check his anal glands, when full, they can give off a really fishy skunky smell!

Could the shelter have sprayed her with a super strong cleaner? I know. Some do that to disinfect the dog when they come in. It could be still on the skin even after ur bath. Others have good thoughts to _________________
