Forum Rules
1. Here we prefer clarity to agreement. Obviously not everyone is going to agree on a topic; here we prefer to talk out our differences in a respectful manner to ensure mutual understanding and respect.
2. Read the Stickies and Announcements. Each sub-forum may have specific rules which trump the Forum Rules in cases where there may be conflicting information. Read the rules of each board before you post so that you are clear on the expectations of the staff.
3. Respect ALL Staff and Admins. These people volunteer of their time and MUST be respected as well as their word adhered to. They are responsible for maintaining a free, open, clear and organized forum. Anyone found to be openly undermining any official ruling by a staff member will be warned.
4. Signatures: One picture only and no links. Images: To keep the forum looking neat and tidy, we ask that members insert just one picture only in their signatures. The picture should be no more than 200x500 pixels and should be of an appropriate subject, for example, your dogs and their names. Should you need assistance creating an appropriate signature, please PM an Admin and we would be happy to help! This is to ensure that signatures remain a welcome addition to our forum instead of a cumbersome distraction. Links: Hyperlinks in signatures--unless to a personal blog or photo stream of your dogs (like Flckr or Piscasa, for example)--are strictly prohibited. Please PM a staff member with any questions or concerns regarding this rule.

Has anyone in here used Grannick's Bitter Apple Spray? Does it actually work?

Short answer..... It depends on the dog.

Some are more tolerant of the taste and will continue anyways while others hate it and stop doing what ever behaviour you are trying to curve.

Long answer. Catching them in the act and training properly can curve most anything you can think of... It requires more work and being proactive. But in the long run it teaches them right from wrong without the need of supplements and can be transferred outside of your house as well.

Just my 2 pennies.

I used a similar product called bitter lime which worked really well for me or should I say worked for Biko. (I never chewed on doors).

We use it ALL THE TIME! The pups are trying to chew the corner of the wall, so I give it a good couple spritz and they stop immediately!

I used it on a dog I fostered once and she LIKED the flavor, she would lick it off whatever I sprayed it on. Hopefully you have better luck with that one!

If the bitter apple doesn't work, there is a vinegar and pepper mixture that you can use in a spray bottle. It worked great for my mom' dogs, the bitter apple didn't phase them.

Damn you Len, this made me laugh.

We used a spray bottle filled this way:

Fill half the spray bottle with water. Then mix:

- 1/4 spray bottle of lemon juice
-1/4 spray bottle of white vinegar.
-6 - 10 drops of jalapeno oil or some form of hot pepper oil.

Cato never stood a chance. I used the white vinegar because it acts as a keep off for the cats too. They HATE white vinegar and lemon scented anything.
