Hey guys,

I'm thinking about getting a husky friend for Stark. He's got the cats but he's starting to get big enough to hurt them and I won't be too comfortable with him playing with the cats when his prey drive kicks in (2 more months). What are your opinions on getting a second husky friend for my first husky friend? I saw a few that are his age from a different breeder - she still had some available too! Or should I wait until he's about a year? Does it not even make a difference?

Any help is welcome!! Smile

Personally- I would wait until he's at least a year old before adding another. I understand your want! Within 3 months of first adopting Mickey... we had finally gotten Cheyenne. But we had been looking for nearly 2 months! We were hooked! Mickey was pretty good, considering. But him and Cheyenne together was frustrating. Mickey wasn't a truly "good and positive" influence on her and they got into a LOT of things together. Just ask our old door, blinds, COUCH... ect. ect. lol

Adding another is certainly fun- but if I could do it all over again (and still wind up with Cheyenne) I would have waited until we had Mickey longer.

I've been in your boat.

When we got Delilah, I fell in LOVE with the breed. Thankfully, my hubby is rational and kept telling me no when I asked for another. She was new to us, came with her own issues and needed to be fully trained (ha, as if that will ever happen!) and needed to acclimate before I could just throw another dog in the mix.

That being said, we did get Cato about a year after we adopted Delilah. It was a great decision. She is fully house trained, doesn't pull on a leash and knows her commands. She has been a great asset to Cato's training.

I suggest you wait, even if it is very difficult. Don't worry too much about the kitties, just make sure the pup knows that the kitties are higher in the hierarchy of important in the family and make sure they have an escape.

Thank you both for your words of wisdom - we're pretty lucky with Stark - he's incredibly well mannered even though he's going through his teething... Will definitely take it into consideration!! Smile

Yeah, you need to get comfortable and truly understanding of your dog before you add to it at such a young age. Adding to a pack is easier the older the dogs are. You don't want to be training two puppies with their wonderful activities they can come up with.

Good luck.
