I saw this today and wanted to share it with everyone. I cannot believe how these poor things are treated. |

| How on earth can someone who has had eight warning / citations from their state still be in business?? Is it that they're making enough by their sales that the citation is only a slap on the wrist or don't the laws have enough teeth?? _________________ “Properly trained, a man can be dog’s best friend.” Corey Ford . |

| Laws don't have enough teeth. Not here in Missouri at least. Sometimes if the dogs are practically rotting off their bones while still alive they will raid and there will be short jail time, but it's gotta be bad. _________________ |

| A few years back there was a proposed law that would enforce stricter regulations for dog breeding. It was super popular in the cities and was voted in, but it ended up being expensive and the lawmakers whittled it down until it was worthless. Here's what we're dealing with right now:

| I'm in Camden county, grew up in Hickory, and that map looks spot on. Outside of springfield is just a slop fest of "breeders". Greene county and the city has okay laws but no one around them does so they do their breeding where there's no law and then hope that people will drive from springfield to buy from them. And it usually works. I wish that was an interactive map where you could click on a dot and find out who the dot was for. That red in Hickory county is intriguing for me since I know that county like the back of my hand. _________________ |

| This is so horrifying, omg. The one thing about the article that stuck in my mind, was that some of these millers were breeders of merit through AKC, and also mentioned that they were registered dogs, doesn't mean they come from the best breeders. To someone who wants to get a quality dog from a quality breeder, must look past AKC and the fact that there are papers on a particular dog, neither mean much, yet the public tries to do the right thing by looking to the AKC and by seeing papers. So unless one is highly educated on what to look for in a good breeder, and/or stop buying from puppy stores, this will continue. It doesn't state which breeders were for what breed, but clearly there is a pic of 2 huskies, how many people just from this forum may have gotten a pup through this breeder, in one way or another (rescue, store, or direct)? |

| Ugh yeah. My people are from Miller and it, too, has quite a few of them. The cities aren't innocent either, though. Here in Jackson we have a ton of pet stores selling puppies. We might not be producing them, but we certainly are funding them.
I think the akc could really help this issue if they would. I'm not sure how, but I feel they should have some way of denying these people's litters. In Kansas city, our pet stores advertise the akc papers and charge like 2.5k for the puppies. If there was some way to keep them from doing that, I think we could hit the mills in the wallet. I have a feeling though that there's only one wallet the akc is concerned about... |
