1. Here we prefer clarity to agreement. Obviously not everyone is going to agree on a topic; here we prefer to talk out our differences in a respectful manner to ensure mutual understanding and respect.
2. Read the Stickies and Announcements. Each sub-forum may have specific rules which trump the Forum Rules in cases where there may be conflicting information. Read the rules of each board before you post so that you are clear on the expectations of the staff.
3. Respect ALL Staff and Admins. These people volunteer of their time and MUST be respected as well as their word adhered to. They are responsible for maintaining a free, open, clear and organized forum. Anyone found to be openly undermining any official ruling by a staff member will be warned.
4. Signatures: One picture only and no links. Images: To keep the forum looking neat and tidy, we ask that members insert just one picture only in their signatures. The picture should be no more than 200x500 pixels and should be of an appropriate subject, for example, your dogs and their names. Should you need assistance creating an appropriate signature, please PM an Admin and we would be happy to help! This is to ensure that signatures remain a welcome addition to our forum instead of a cumbersome distraction. Links: Hyperlinks in signatures--unless to a personal blog or photo stream of your dogs (like Flckr or Piscasa, for example)--are strictly prohibited. Please PM a staff member with any questions or concerns regarding this rule.

If your vet wants to put your dog on a medication, check to see if it is a human medication, if it is you may be able to get it cheaper going through a "human pharmacy" lol. I remember a vet wanting to charge me $40 for the same antibiotic I paid only $9.99 for at my pharmacy instead of going through the vet. And sometimes pharmacys even have free antibiotics, most of the time they will honor that for a pet as well.

Just something to think about....may save you some money.

Yup! And Target has $4 generics for pets, too!

Check the mg. Sometimes human and animal mg are different.

This is especially true if your dog goes on "Reconcile" for anxiety issues. Reconcile is the same as fluoxetine (generic Prozac) and that's a $140 vs $4 price tag difference.

Your vet will write prescription for your pet's meds - so they'll adjust the mg at the pharmacy.

Your pharmacist will do that as well, also if it needs a slight change in order to be filled at your pharmacy, your pharmacist can call the vet to get them to make the change.

It is ALWAYS worth it to check first, you never know what you can save.

I got so mad at the Val-u-vet here. A friend and a relative both went there with their dogs and they both were prescribed an antibiotic that there cost them like $40, when you can get it for free at our local grocery store. My vet is nice enough to actually let you know you can get the stuff cheaper elsewhere.

I hear you, It happened to me too, there is no reason for vets to mark it so much! Ridiculous! That is why because I work at a pharmacy I tell everyone to check us first. We can't always get the medicines a vet prescribes, but 9/10 we can and it is almost always a lot cheaper!

Just wanted to give everyone a heads up, I know I like saving $$$ figured you guys would too!
