| We are feeding our baby Jager Benniful, 1/2 cup 3 times a day. He is 11 weeks and weighs 19.4lbs. I am not sure if this is enough. We have had him for 3 days now. |

| Sry to say, but Beneful is like feeding you pup McDonalds every meal. I'd switch the food to a higher quality if your budget will allow. Browse the What Are You Feeding Your Husky thread, there's a lot of great info there. (of course what people are feeding most recent is towards the back) A cup and a half of food isn't very much for a pup, especially on a lower quality food. They need to eat more of it to get all the nutrients out of it, but with higher quality they eat less because it isn't full of useless filler, thus you'll end up saving cash. I never measured for Kale but most people here have mentioned starting with 2 cups and working from there. 2 1/2 seems average. |

| We only kept him on Beneful because that's what his previous owners were feeding him. With bringing him home, starting to crate train and properly potty train, I didn't want to change his food as well. Should I hold off for a little bit until he is adjusted until we change his food? I mean is too much change at one time stressful for him? |

| When I got Rogue, she was on Science Diet and I never fed her a day of it. If it's a crappy food, I just don't even bother. |

Tori tells us Ripley was on Gravy Train...... We all agreed, Tori, Kelly, and Myself, to just switch her cold turkey and just deal with the runs. Not chiming in to say what you should feed your pup.... Just that in our case we didn't want to feed her that. ~Chris~ _________________ Is this about the cake problem? That comes down to a lot of factors... Beneful isn't a perfect food... it has alot of corn and meal in it. You could be feeding Jager a higher quality food for sure. Dog Food Advisor Dog Food Analysis Can give you some great ino on what goes into food and what you should be looking at in terms of Ingredients I would try and give more info but I'm heading out the door, and there are MUCH better people for that ~Chris~ _________________ Is this about the cake problem? | I agree with you all, I want to feed Jager better food. I just don't want to make him too stressed out with all the changes at once. That's why I am wondering if it is better to change him cold turkey now, or let him settle in a little more first. It sounds like most of you say to get rid of the bad food ASAP. |

| It's kinda hard to remember, but I think when we brought our pups home, we bought enough of the food the breeder was feeding to make an easy transition....small bag of pedigree puppy chow (yuck) and a full sized bag of what we were switching to. IMHO you have 2 options... -- If you still have a large quantity of Beneful, buy a bag of a better food and gradually introduce it to Jager's mealtimes. In time you'll be done with the Beneful and your pup will happily be transitioned over. This would work even if you don't have a large quantity of the Beneful left, just faster. OR you can donate the Beneful, switch to a better food and deal with any system upsets if they occur. |

| Orijen!!! Expensive but Luna's coat is so purttyyyyyyyy. She gets 1 cup in the am and 1 cup at night. 2 cups per day everyday. Make sure you transition her properly.
I switched Luna using this method. Day 1: 1/4 new food 3/4 current food twice a day Day 2: 1/2 new food 1/2 current food twice a day Day 3: 3/4 new food 1/4 current food twice a day Day 4 = NEW FOODDDDDDD

| We switched both our girls cold turkey and only had a problem with Elara with one food. That one brand just didn't agree with her at all. Otherwise no problems at all switching cold turkey and I still do it today going from the different formulas of Acana and sometimes TOTW. _________________ -Sara |

| The issue we came across with mixing, was that Delilah can easily.puck out the prices she actually likes (new food). When I we got cato we switched him ovet cold turkey and gave him pumpkin to help the switch. He had firms stools after a few days. Its worth it to switch and om sure your pup can handle it.
My issue with beneful is the excessive amount of dye they use in it. I have heard to many horror stories about it. |

| Though I've always worked in any new food, I was once told by my pet food supplier at the time that if the kibble doesn't have "by-products" you can go right to 100% new food |

| Yes stay away from that food. Personally I settled on Taste of the Wild pacific stream because it was the highest quality and the cheapest in my area. |

| Ultimately it is up to you when you want to switch to a better food. I personally prefer to wait a couple weeks before transitioning our new dogs to a better food. I am of the opinion that there's enough stress in their life at the time of coming into a new home, so why add another possible source of problems. Honestly, a few weeks on Beneful is not going to do any harm so I wouldn't be overly concerned. _________________ |

| Feed your dog a chicken or chicken by-product and rice/corn/barley/oats food with 25% -30% protein and 15% - 20% fat from a company with real experience, ideally in competition of some sort. Avoid the internet glamour foods like Orijen, Acana, The Honest Kitchen, Horizon, Go & Now.
Avoid Nature's Variety like the plague.
Look for Dr. Tim's (on PetFlow now in 44lb value bags), Annamaet, Precise (regular formulas), Victor, Nutrisource (regular formulas) and if you can only shop at Petsmart or Petco, Bil-Jac is great.
Dr. Tim's and Annamaet are the two best foods on the market, made and used by professionals, not the Dog Park Dog Food Police.
