1. Here we prefer clarity to agreement. Obviously not everyone is going to agree on a topic; here we prefer to talk out our differences in a respectful manner to ensure mutual understanding and respect.
2. Read the Stickies and Announcements. Each sub-forum may have specific rules which trump the Forum Rules in cases where there may be conflicting information. Read the rules of each board before you post so that you are clear on the expectations of the staff.
3. Respect ALL Staff and Admins. These people volunteer of their time and MUST be respected as well as their word adhered to. They are responsible for maintaining a free, open, clear and organized forum. Anyone found to be openly undermining any official ruling by a staff member will be warned.
4. Signatures: One picture only and no links. Images: To keep the forum looking neat and tidy, we ask that members insert just one picture only in their signatures. The picture should be no more than 200x500 pixels and should be of an appropriate subject, for example, your dogs and their names. Should you need assistance creating an appropriate signature, please PM an Admin and we would be happy to help! This is to ensure that signatures remain a welcome addition to our forum instead of a cumbersome distraction. We trained this by first training Teek how to speak. We had triggered a vocalization by getting her excited and then marked and rewarded it. We did this until she could do it on command.

Once we had that down, and noticed she probably had to go out (We ask her if she needs to pee or she hangs around the back door), we simply requested a "Speak". We didn't move towards the door until she did and we just kept saying "Speak". When she would speak we would get up right away and praise and let her out.

It wasn't hard to do and only took about a week after we taught her how to speak before she understood she had to speak to be let out and would do it all by herself.

Good luck,
~Chris~

Instead of training him to bark to be let out, you can train them to ring a bell near the door.

This thread had a lot of information about it.

Well i got to it last night i found when i just held a biscuit or treat and said nothing he barked so i started saying speak then showing the treat "i used doggy chocolate buttons as they are small and could give him more" i then stopped showing the treat and saying speak which he caught onto very well and now speaks on command now just to get him to do it at the door. very helpful advice and greatly appreciated thank you.

@ katiesham i actually thought you were joking with me had a good read and would probably work in the right enviroment but my gf has a three year old girl who cant stop putting her hands to his mouth never mind leave a bell alone lol but thanks for the advice

I had a similar problem until I started leashing him to take him outside (now that he's an adult he's very interested in exploring rather than hangin' out mom) and now he comes to me and sits down and stares at me with beady blue eyes and will occasionally let out a yelp or two to take him outside.
