Creepers :/ Empty
PostSubject: Creepers :/   Creepers :/ EmptySat Jun 23, 2012 1:42 pm

So, I was out yesterday while both of my parents were home with Ava and Snickers. After I got home, mom told me about this woman and her daughter who we'd never met before who came to the door, claimed that they lived up our road and were looking for any sort of odd jobs they could do to get money. She said no to them because we really couldn't afford to pay anyone to do stuff that we could/should do ourselves, but the lady kept talking. She started asking about Ava and saying how pretty she was, and asked if we'd bred her yet, or if we were planning to breed her so we could sell the puppies. Mom just said that we weren't planning to and didn't mention anything about her being spayed, of course Creepers :/ 1625187496 The lady also mentioned how sweet my cat (who was outside on the front porch) was and how she'd love to have her.

I might be paranoid, but now I'm kinda creeped out. We live in a rural area and don't even know our neighbors, much less the ones that live at the start of the hollow (yeah...I live in a hollow. That kinda rural lol). I'm a little afraid to leave Ava at home alone now and the kitty will definitely be locked in the house for a few days, even though she hates it. The only days where Ava is home alone are Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday, but I can possibly take her to work with me for a few weeks. Might be overreacting, but do you guys think that was creepy or that someone would be desperate enough for cash that they'd steal her to try and breed her??

Is it "let's see if we can steal Huskies" week?

WOW! I would be creeped out too! We have a rescue in the area that steals dogs and then adopts them back out. People are crazy enough to do ANYTHING. I would just watch carefully, and if you or your mom sees ANYTHING, call the cops and report it. Better safe then sorry!

I would creep me out also.. I would take Ava to work if you can for a few weeks until you feel better about things.

About 2 or 3 months after I got Blaze we were at the dog park and another husky owner was talking to me about him asking were I had got him and how old he was. He then took a couple of picture of him with his cell phone this creeped me out I was worried that he was going to try and claim he was his later going to the police or such.

I did find out a couple weeks later that this person just like to have pictures of all the huskies that go to the dog park. So I guess it was okay nothing happen.

No kidding right????? I wouldn't worry too too much.... I mean they would have to be REAL DENSE to come to your house first, show their faces, and then come back for your animals.....

I know people have done stupider things.... but that's pretty dense.

But I agree with Tiff..... Keep an eye on them...

I know, right? I was getting ready to post and saw Trillion's topic about the same thing. Its making me really uneasy. Where I live, we don't have a lot of people who are good to their dogs and there's a lot of shady "breeders" who just pop out puppies to sell. That and the fact that the cops don't seem too concerned about anything involving helping pets and there's no animal control to call. Now more than ever I wish I could find an apartment to move out already.

I hate taking Ava to work when I don't have to because she's way to hyperactive around the other (and less friendly) dogs, plus we've been working with the shelter so there's been outbreaks of kennel cough, parvo, and distemper a lot lately. I'll just have to keep her up front away from any place the sick ones could have gone, I guess, and hope she doesn't get kennel cough just from being in the lobby.

Edit - I think I'm gonna get a cheap webcam today to mount in our front window. Just in case.

It was probably nothing but to be safe I would take her to work with you for a few days and be more aware of your surroundings when you are out walking/running with her.

The first time I brought Luna to the vet they said get her micro chipped as soon as possible because Huskies have a tendency to go 'missing'. It's such a scary world we live in sometimes, I'd say keep an eye out for sure!

I had Montana chipped when she had her spay done. I have heard stories of huskies disappearing around here.

I'd keep Ava close for a week or two for sure and be more aware on walks. Maybe invest in some mace for walks, if you think it's needed.

Actually a very good idea. Be sure to make it obvious so anyone with the wrong intentions sees it to help them decide they are better to leave your property pronto.

Cops in our area told us a sign saying that we have cameras and a camera are some of the best ways to protect ourselves. We got two panasonic outdoor cameras from amazon that cover the entire property - plus we can see them online at all times. To record, you'll need extra software and a huuuuge hard drive unless you delete every 24 hours. GIves us peace of mind just having the cameras, though. Cameras were easy to set up once we got in touch with support, otherwise the instructions suck.

Best of luck - sounds super shady.
