Subject: Should I remove her rooms? Wed Jun 20, 2012 11:21 pm
So we gave Snow the dining room and kitchen as well as her first room, the living room. Today she peed a little before I caught her and took her out. Then she tried going again, same spot even though I thoroughly cleaned it. Should I put her back in just the living room?

My husband just read somewhere that when a puppy chooses a place in the house to pee, it is often because there is little to none of your scent in it. I know this was true for us. After we introduced the living room (which is really a sitting room and not really "lived" in like our den is) and the dining room, those were the two rooms where he would pee. We thought then that it was because he could sneak out of our sight, but perhaps it really was because those rooms smelled less like the rest of our house because we do not frequent them. The suggestion from the author of this book is to go sit in those rooms and read a book or use the laptop at least once a day and see if he still goes in there to pee.
I, personally, would take the easy route and block off those rooms again until he can be better trusted (that's what we did). But I am curious to know whether this theory about the "pack smell" not being in those rooms might be true...

Did you clean the spot with an enzyme cleaner?

I did. We need Nature's Miracle but we do have some pretty good stuff we use. I think if she has one more accident I'll limit her down to the living room again. I just hate to do that because she loves doing zoomies and won't be able to in there. Plus I have an awful back and are gates don't open. We have to climb over them :/

That may be too much freedom too quickly. Before Cheyenne figured out how to climb out of the area we baby gated off for her, we tried giving her more room and the accidents started back up. So we backed them back down and it stopped.

I've put her back in just the living room. Sucks though b.c now my house has become an obstacle course lol.
I also hope she doesn't poop in her bigger kennel :/ This one didn't come with a divider.

I think she was trying to get to the dining room to pee.

Does she have free access to that water all the time? Reason I ask is because with Balon he would drink like a fish then go peeing all over the place. We decided to limit his access to water and suddenly he is going to the front door and whining to pee! I think he loves water, but too much just gave him a super soaker lol. He gets water with both meals of course, and we offer him small amounts throughout the day. It has worked wonders for us.
BTW Snow has grown so much, she is so pretty!

She does but she's not going around the house peeing all the time. In fact... that's the first accident she's had in awhile. And now she's constantly ringing the bells to go out O.o What a silly little girl she's becoming! I wouldn't have her any other way

lol, she is a cutie, I was thinking of trying those bells for Balon, he goes to the door but doesn't make a sound, if we don't see him right away he pees there
