| Kodi, my siberian husky, does not have his "testicles" yet. and he's about 13 or 14 weeks old. I'm really concerned, because i know if i want to get him fixed its going to be a more major surgery. And, if i want to breed him, he will probably be sterile.
Does anyone know anything about this? |

| Sorry, I don't know much about this but replying anyway. I've read everything from 10 weeks to a year for them to drop depending on which source you trust. If it is a problem, a castration is probably needed as this trait should not be passed on. Either way, what I've read leads me to believe the surgery is not much more complicated than a normal neuter. Oh, and my dogs are all rescues so I'm not very up on the puppy issues.
¿Who'd a thunk someone else was on here at this time of night? |

| haha.. well im a teenager, so i have nothing better to do. plus my best friend is on her dog forums, so i thought i would check mine out, then we got talking about kodi's condition and i thought i would ask
and i've also heard that up to a year it is still possible. but that anytime after that it is probably a lost cause. so i'm thinking ill give him til he's a year old, and if they havent, im just going to get him fixed and not worry about it. even though he has champion on both his mom and dads side, and it would be awesome to show him and him get his championship, its just not worth the trouble. (:
thanks so much for your help |

| I would ask his breeder then. They should have a better idea of the time frame and "breedability" after a certain point. Also, the other more knowledgeable folk should be around later tomorrow. They'll say stuff I don't think of.
... and welcome to the forum! I was just perusing all the stuff I missed all day. |

| I would suggest talking to a vet just to be sure. I am not really sure on the time frame, but I have heard if the testicles develop in the abdominal and never drop it can cause serious health problems, higher risk for cancer being one. If one testicle drops but not the other the dog is still fertile but like Harrise said you would probably not want to breed a dog with this issue because it is genetic. Do a search for cryptorchidism and you should be able to find a lot of info about it. |
