Forum Rules
1. Here we prefer clarity to agreement. Obviously not everyone is going to agree on a topic; here we prefer to talk out our differences in a respectful manner to ensure mutual understanding and respect.
2. Read the Stickies and Announcements. Each sub-forum may have specific rules which trump the Forum Rules in cases where there may be conflicting information. Read the rules of each board before you post so that you are clear on the expectations of the staff.
3. Respect ALL Staff and Admins. These people volunteer of their time and MUST be respected as well as their word adhered to. They are responsible for maintaining a free, open, clear and organized forum. Anyone found to be openly undermining any official ruling by a staff member will be warned.
4. Signatures: One picture only and no links. Images: To keep the forum looking neat and tidy, we ask that members insert just one picture only in their signatures. The picture should be no more than 200x500 pixels and should be of an appropriate subject, for example, your dogs and their names. Should you need assistance creating an appropriate signature, please PM an Admin and we would be happy to help! This is to ensure that signatures remain a welcome addition to our forum instead of a cumbersome distraction. Links: Hyperlinks in signatures--unless to a personal blog or photo stream of your dogs (like Flckr or Piscasa, for example)--are strictly prohibited. Please PM a staff member with any questions or concerns regarding this rule.

Freya's first friend is having a sleep over tonight. She is a 12 week old spaniel cross retreiver called Shadow.

Freya and Shadow havnt had any doggy interactions since leaving their litter mates. Freya is 7 weeks old today and is about 1/3 of the size of Shadow.

I wasnt sure how they were going to go, but they got on like a house on fire, They.ran around the house chasing each other, Shadow was bounding along, Freya was mostly on her back being slobbered all over. It was so great to watch her interact with another dog.

I was so proud of her, she is teeny tiny in comaprison to Shadow and doesnt have the speed or agility that Shadow has, but I tell you what, for a tiny 7 week old puppy, she really held her own.

This is hopefully going to become a regular thing as socialisation is so important for them both.

My mum is going away for a week at the end of the month and I'm going to watch her 11 year old Maltese terrier. I'm so looking forward to Freya getting to make all kinds of doggy friends.

Sounds like you are doing it right with Freya, She is too young to take to dog parks (not sure if you have those downunder). Some people here take way too young of dogs to the dog park they can get sick being they are so young.

I've got a 'dog friendly' park just down the road from me but that just means that the dogs can be off leash - It's not enclosed, so I'd never take her there off leash.
I've never seen a fenced in dog park, but it's deffinatelly something to enquire about.

Yeah, I dont even let her out in my own back yard as Parvo can stay dormant in the soil for up to 10 years and I dont know if the previous owner of the property had a dog or if it was immunised. I cant risk it, not until she is fully vaccinated. Before she plays with any dog I have to know first hand if they are up to date with their shots. It's not worth it.

Yeah, I wouldn't take her off leash either, not in an open area.

That's great that they are playing. The more socialized they are, the better! Smile You seem to be doing great with Freya!
