Hayden has always been very food motivated and enjoy's eating very much! Recently, over the last 2 week's he's only been wanting one meal a day. I've read that some people feed their dog's raw once a day, which I would totally be down for! Since Hayden is still a pup (he'll be 9 months at the end of July) I wasn't sure if he still needed that extra meal for growing purposes? He's perfectly healthy, so I'm not worried about him missing a meal at all, I just wanted to make sure it's not going to mess with him growing/joints or anything else.

Just want to add some information on When Blaze was 9 months old when we got him. He would only eat once a day in the evening he skip eating in the morning. It was very hot last summer and he wasn't very active got a couple of walks a day was about it. He also got to run around in the back yard a couple times a day.

He is now about 21 months old and he does not skip many meals ( it is very hot here yet again this summer) he is also more active now playing with Kerian several times a day and we take him to dog park about 4 times a week. He still gets a walk or two a day.

I would prefer him switching to one meal a day eventually. Just wasn't sure if it was the right time for him to while he's still under a year old.

i would still offer him food 2x's a day and if he does not eat one dont freak out and offer it again for the next meal, since he is still young i would keep that up till he is over a yr. by then you will have an idea if he is a one meal a day husky or its just the heat messing with him right now. Jack skips meals all summer long from the heat.

Juno went through this a while ago, and I followed Jenn's advice. Juno is also on the raw diet, and most times she loves it.

Now, with the heat back, she's down to 1 meal, maybe a little less sometime. Still very energetic and acting like her old self, so I'm not worried.

Some of the other advice I heard that I don't see here is:
- Don't offer more treats to try to make up for missing food. This would encourage him to not eat.
- If you switch meat every time they turn their nose up at something, I've heard it's likely to make them a picky eater.

Hope he picks up with the eating soon.

Indy was the same way about that age. My guess is that's when they stop growing so rapidly, so therefor they don't need as much of a food intake as they would when they have multiple growth spurts. I would still offer his normal food amount and just watch him to see how much he eats. After about 1.5-2 months of only eating once a day, Indy picked back up on eating twice and now his food schedule is normal again. For a short period, they stop growing so they regulate how much food they need

Good to know! I will continue offering it to him and if he doesn't eat then at least I'll have dinner already prepared for him
