| The possibilities are endless. What kind of weight are you planning to put on her? Are you going to be repelling or entering 4+ class rock climbing? Most packs are already attached to a harness of some type and others are more of a slide over the head type. Then you get into seriously built (and priced) pack/harness combos. I'm trying to remember who it was, but one of the pack makers had a nice lifting harness with handle that a pack fits around. So far I'm not happy with any individual manufacturer. The nylon being used is not ripstop in my opinion and the grade of cordura is strongest in the Granite Gear line. But the way they've attached the pack has needed constant repair on my part.
It really depends on the terrain and conditions you plan on hiking through. |

| She wont be carrying alot just a lil food and water and maybe a few small supplies at the most, We mainly Hike the Appalachian Mountains and no rock climbing or rappelling. |

| Most any pack would probably work for that. Granite Gear would be my first choice. The pack itself has held for hundreds of miles over the years. Only after packing close to 20 pounds through rock did the top anchor straps break. It was a quick repair by hand with heavy thread and it's still going fairly strong.
My biggest complaint about the other brands is the tendency for the pack to slip off. Even with the three straps snug and properly adjusted, it will slide forward over their head when we're facing downhill. But if the grades aren't that intense, most packs will stay on just fine. The fabric itself is what I've had problems with. The Wenaha and Outward Hound have needed seam repair dozens of times.
Guess I can't really complain when I consider how much those have carried for so far. If I had bought them new someone would get a letter. eBay and craigslist are the best places to find packs I've found. It just takes some patience and constant checking to find the right one for the right money. |
