If you go to you're local market, you can pick up meats with bones and organs on sale for a decent price. I only feed mine ground meat once or twice a week w/egg and organs. I prefer them having more bone in their diet. I give organs once a week. It will be a lot easier for you once you get use to feeding raw.

You shouldn't have to explain yourself Now when your a client like me that will irritate when you know your not doing harm.......... irritate away to your heart's content. If you decide to try a different vet after this visit, be a smart azz and say do you think Hills or Science Diet are better idea then feeding raw????? |

Kelly, I am not that comfortable of giving them bones yet. The only bones they currently get are chicken necks. I will slowly add in bones to their meal. For the moment, can the 10% of bones be chicken necks.80% be chunks or ground meat and 10% organ. I check several sources that call chicken necks fat and bones with a CA:P of 1.6:1. So that should be enough of bones?

You don't have to follow my food plan, you can come up with you're own and do whichever work's best for you and you're dog's. You should ask one of the nutritional bookworms, they have been doing this longer than I have and I'm sure they will be able to steer you in the right direction.

I haven't started raw yet but when I see my vet he tells me the same thing. "She looks beautiful, good coat and skin, clear eyes. Don't worry about her weight Huskies run a little thin." Points for him though when I first got her he did ask and mention he had the science diet out there. It was more cause I had gotten her two weeks ago and I told him the person I had was feeding Old Roy. I said thanks but I have her on Orijen for now and he asked about it and seemed pretty interested. She had some stomache issues with that one though so now it's hollistic until I can plan out my switch to raw.

That sucks about your vet being so ignorant. My vet never even ASKS me stuff like that -.- They don't care about my dogs, they only care about getting my money. I'm still trying to find a vet I like and after going through five of them I feel like its hopeless

So far I love my vet. Everyone there is incredibly nice and just love Nikko. The doc I've been seeing isn't totally against raw, but he expressed his concern over the bones splintering, which is understandable. He recommended home made meals, which isn't terrible. But I'll stick with raw

The only way a husky would get huge is if there was a breeder somewhere wanting large huskies, like my sweet Sophie, who tips the scales at 75 lbs and is a couple inches taller than Steve. I get soo annoyed at vets like that. I would have nearly walked out if they recommended crap like purina or Iams. I can get more with just going cereal and passing on all the pretty food coloring
