| Subject: 5 mth with loose stool Sat May 26, 2012 10:27 pm | |
| Dear All, Would be very grateful if someone could advise me on what to do now. I have a 5 mth old girl who was on Solid Gold Puppy since when she was with the breeder. Solid Gold is good kibble so I have her stick to it.
Starting last mth (4 mth old) -
I added in 1 tablespoon low fat organic yogurt or cottage cheese in the morning daily
3 tablespoon veggie of cooked corrot / zucchini / peas added for lunch daily
1/2 egg plus cooked salmon once per week mixed kibble in the evening meal
However I think since the 2 nd time I mixed salmon/cooked fruit + egg with kibble her stool got worse from solid to loose then in 2 days time got to 1 time diarrhea. I stopped kibble then she's on bland rice + chicken right away.
She got back on solid from bland. She was on bland for 4 days and already lost quite a bit weight.
I suspect she has allergy some sort and maybe I shouldn't mix kibble with cooked meal plus I also want to switch to Orijen Large Breed Puppy so I started switching her back on kibble. She was fine first 2 days with 25% Orijen + 75% bland. Then I moved to 50% Orijen now she's getting loose stool.
What should I do? Is it I am going to 50% too fast? Should I cut back to 25%? She's so jumping up and down for Orijen and gained back weight right on. Or if Orijen Large Breed too rich even I mixed 50% kibble & bland
Your help is very very appreciated

| I cooked the egg as well. She's been on 50% bland 50% (100 gram per day divided into 4 meals) for 3 days now still loose. =< |

| Loose as in runs? Or just not totally solid? If it were me I'd just mix in some pumpkin until she was solid and then try and back off on that. If she goes loose again it may be that the Orijen is too rich. Or doesn't sit with her.
I usually switch cold turkey with a fast and then pumpkin/new food mix but I'm sure others will give you more help doing it slowly. I personally just have no patience for that. _________________ Force Free Training ThreadCheyenne, Mishka, Mickey, Rodeo, & Odin Are you a Husky owner in South Florida?! | When I read the title, due to the age, I was thinking the food is possibly too rich, just like Kristina was saying. Also 2nd the pumpkin to see about regulating it and going from there. Pumpkin isn't a cure all, but will help to see about settling the stomach.
Good luck |

| Thanks Kristina. The stool just not solid... Sticky.... some sort Will go buy some fresh pumpkin and mix in the meals to see.... But she's still on 50% Bland (rice + chicken).... Would additional 1 to 2 teaspoon pumpkin too rich in fibre? |

| Thanks Kevo. Yep definitely will try pumpkin. But just she's not yet on 100% Orijen. 100 grams per day Orijen still too rich? |

| The pumpkin will be just fine on her, be sure it's regular canned pumpkin- not pie filling.
How much a day total are you feeding? It could be that you're overfeeding... I think 100g is just about as much as 1 cup of Orijen.. With a 5 months old pup I would probably feed around 2-2.5 cups daily total. _________________ Force Free Training ThreadCheyenne, Mishka, Mickey, Rodeo, & Odin Are you a Husky owner in South Florida?! | She's having less than 1 cup Orijen - approx 5/6 cup daily, and mixes with bland rice chicken diet
To avoid bloat i have her on small meal diet so I feed her 4 times daily. Each meal just 1/4 cup Orijen mixes with 50% rice and chicken now.... She's around 10 kg..... |

| That should be OK amount wise, certainly give the pumpkin a try and once she's solid back off with the pumpkin and see what happens. _________________ Force Free Training ThreadCheyenne, Mishka, Mickey, Rodeo, & Odin Are you a Husky owner in South Florida?! Join our facebook meetup group! |
