Forum Rules
1. Here we prefer clarity to agreement. Obviously not everyone is going to agree on a topic; here we prefer to talk out our differences in a respectful manner to ensure mutual understanding and respect.
2. Read the Stickies and Announcements. Each sub-forum may have specific rules which trump the Forum Rules in cases where there may be conflicting information. Read the rules of each board before you post so that you are clear on the expectations of the staff.

Seems like the pincher collars aren't working anymore for my one year-old Bella. She pulls like crazy! Anyway, I am taking both girls on one mile walks twice a day (as exercise for me) and I plan on doing the Couch to 5K program with them. My problem is that Bella pulls a lot while my older one, Ava, doesn't. This is becoming a problem when I'm going on these walks and I'm sure will be a bigger problem when I start training. Should I switch them both to a harness so as to curtail the pulling? I always attach the leash to the pincher and her regular collar. Suggestions??

The only way the pinch collars are effective is to have them put on and sized correctly. They should be high on the neck behind the ears and shouldn't be free to move about. It may look like its tight but in fact that's how they're supposed to be worn to stop the pulling.

When I run/walk the dogs I have them in harnesses because I want them to pull. Putting them in one won't curb the pulling in itself.

For the solution I guess it will just matter what you want, do you want them running next to you or do you want them running in front?

Yeah Denise a harness encourages them to pull. I got Asia the freedom no pull harness and yep, doesn't work, lol. It was ok for the first 2 days, but now she's used to it. It's better than a regular harness, but doesn't curb the pulling as much. I'm blessing with crazy pulling huskies! Razz

I took out another prong from Kody's pincher the other day and put it on high, under the ears, and it works. It does slip down at times so I have to adjust it during the walk, but I can't take another prong off. I think Kristina said that means he needs a pincher with smaller prongs.

Kristina, next time I see you, remind me to ask you to check Bella's pincher. I'm afraid of messing around with it and then something happen. ha ha

I recommend just walking your puller one on one and train the pulling out of her. Harness, collar, whatever, neither of mine pull unless I have been a terrible mom and not walked them for a few days (yeaaaah.. done that before). Pinch collars are great used properly, but for me personally, I don't want to have to use a tool to have my dog walk the way I want them to.
