Forum Rules
1. Here we prefer clarity to agreement. Obviously not everyone is going to agree on a topic; here we prefer to talk out our differences in a respectful manner to ensure mutual understanding and respect.
2. Read the Stickies and Announcements. Each sub-forum may have specific rules which trump the Forum Rules in cases where there may be conflicting information. Read the rules of each board before you post so that you are clear on the expectations of the staff.
3. Respect ALL Staff and Admins. These people volunteer of their time and MUST be respected as well as their word adhered to. They are responsible for maintaining a free, open, clear and organized forum. Anyone found to be openly undermining any official ruling by a staff member will be warned.
4. Signatures: One picture only and no links. Images: To keep the forum looking neat and tidy, we ask that members insert just one picture only in their signatures. The picture should be no more than 200x500 pixels and should be of an appropriate subject, for example, your dogs and their names. Should you need assistance creating an appropriate signature, please PM an Admin and we would be happy to help! This is to ensure that signatures remain a welcome addition to our forum instead of a cumbersome distraction. Links: Hyperlinks in signatures--unless to a personal blog or photo stream of your dogs (like Flckr or Piscasa, for example)--are strictly prohibited. Please PM a staff member with any questions or concerns regarding this rule.

If I was to add a third to my pack which sex would be best or does it matter? Lab Ruby is a she, Husky Balon is a he?

I think since you have one of each, it really just depends on your current dogs. Since Mishka i've just gotten boys and it hasn't made much of a difference at all.

I would lean on saying that it depends on the dogs themselves, rather than just sex (assuming they are fixed).

Yep, definitely just depends on your current dogs and the new dog that you were to bring home. Mya (my 6 year old) is the total Alpha. When we brought Kody home (12 weeks old) she immediately put him in his place. She still rules his life Razz When we brought Asia home a few weeks ago (she was about 6 months old) she did the same thing to her. So far we haven't had any major issues. Asia backs away when Mya warns her. So hoping it remains that way.

If your current dogs are cool then you shouldn't have any issues.

We had a boy and a girl, then adopted Snow...the other two were very submissive, where snow is definitely the established Alpha now..so it really just depends on your current dogs, and the dog you are looking to adopt. Smile

We have three dogs of which only one is a husky(F), the other is a Lab(M) and the last one added was a BeagleXGSD(F).

The BeagleXGSD was in pretty poor shape when we fostered her (and later adopted her) and in the end she became the alpha, essentially stealing the rank from Maya our Husky. As a result we had about 8 months of instability between the females as they placed themselves but in the end the Husky tolerates the Beagle's control of the pack because, frankly, she's a natural at it. She isn't overly aggressive and manages to be playful in her manipulation.

Once the rank is firmly in place we'll start to feed her first as a sign that we acknowledge her rank.

Well I wouldn't be getting another until Balon is older, but right now I believe Ruby is boss, but she isn't demanding so its hard to see if it will end up that way. Balon plays at humping her (I know its dominace lol) but she just usually looks around and shoots him a look, and sometimes growls and he backs right off. Ruby was spayed at 5 months Balon will be neutered soon as he can!
