| Subject: Shaved Husky? Sat May 05, 2012 2:24 am | |
| Hi. I shaved my 3 year old husky last summer. Someone talked me into doing it and i didn't know that huskies shouldn't be shaved back then. It's been almost a year but his fur didn't grow back to the way it was before shaving. The dark color of his fur didn't come back. Now, I know I shouldn't shave him and I am not going to shave him. I just wonder if his fur is going get to be the way it was before my stupid mistake. Here is how he used to look. (more than a year ago) And this is how he looks now. (Its been almost a year since he was shaved) |

| Shaving does affect the coat and sometimes it may never return back to the pre-shave "normal". However I don't think shaving affects coat color. I suspect your sibes coat color change was independent of the shaving, it was most likely already going to happen, the shave just made it faster and more noticeable. My sibes coat color has changed from dark to light just like yours and he has never been shaved. Notice how your sibes face lightened as well? That tells me he was changing color whether you had shaved him or not. _________________ |

| While shaving doesn't change the color of the dogs coat, it does certainly effect the appearance of it. The coat looks the way it does due to the top coat being for the most part gone and hasn't grown back. Undercoat grows back faster which is the majority of what you see. Top coat doesn't grow back as fast nor as frequently. Odin was shaved a year and a half ago and still doesn't look or feel totally normal. I would expect to wait for a coat blow to see more progress.
Regardless what you're seeing is due to him being shaved and wouldn't occur normally. Daily brushing will help stimulate growth on the coat. _________________ Force Free Training ThreadCheyenne, Mishka, Mickey, Rodeo, & Odin Are you a Husky owner in South Florida?! Join our facebook meetup group! |

| Thanks. And I got another question. I live in Ankara, Turkey. During summer, the temperatures are around 85F (30C). He stays in the back yard in shade with fresh water. But do you think the temperature here is too hot for a husky to handle? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ankara#Climate |

| Agreed that 85F is really warm for activity of a Husky but not totally intolerable. Many areas of the USA reach those temps on a daily basis, just let them lie low when it gets hot outside. If your mornings and evening tend to be warm/hot then pack some water for them when out for activities. |

| Temps here is the summer get hotter than that.. When I walk It is usually very early in the morning and we take short walks them. We also walk sometimes late in the evening.. When I take him to the dog park it is usually when them are cooler and there is lots of water there..
I watch my dog for signs of over heating.

| Temps get hotter here too and I know someone who has an outdoor kennel for all her sibes and they do just fine in the heat. As long as they have water and good shade. _________________ -Sara |
