I have a 14-week old Husky puppy who is very skittish and won't let me or my family pet him. Sometimes though, I will be laying in bed, and he comes to my hand and presses his nose against it. He does this sometimes to my leg as well....What is he trying to tell me?

Possibilities:

-Im thirsty, and my water bowl is empty!
-Play with me!
-Can I get into bed with you?
-The cat is giving me a funny look...

- 'Please take me outside before I embarrass us both?'

It could be any number of things.

It can be anything really. I'm hungry, I want attention, I gotta go potty, etc. After a while you just get to know what those little signs mean. They're just like kids. For example, I know that when Kody comes and puts his head on my lap or on the sofa next me it's that he wants to go outside (not to potty, just to be outside). When he comes up to me and barks it's because he has to potty. When Mya comes and starts at me she wants a walk or has no water. You just know eventually lol

Tika does it too. She always has.

In a lot of books it's referred to as "punching". It's a common trait amongst sled dog types. It's simply a way of communication they use to let you know they want something. From my experience the less "vocal" huskies tend to do it more.

It is however not considered to be "polite" asking. It's more of a "HEY LET'S PLAY", "PAY ATTENTION TO ME NOW", "TAKE ME OUTSIDE I NEED TO PEE" type of request. some people see it as a dominate behavior as it's always more of a demand because of they way they come into your space and punch you.

Personally I've never had an issue with it. Tika uses it to get attention or pets a lot, and for me it's far better then her being vocal about everything. I only correct her when she punches me or someone else if I/they are eating.

Thor and Nero do that to me I usually know what they want but there is a time or two I am clueless. I just ask them what they want and then I say show me. I stand up and say show me and will stand there till they move in a direction and I follow them. They will stop and look to see if I am still following and usually take me to what they want.

I left this one out because he isn't house trained yet But yeh, if Luka needs to go potty he will be very vocal about it - and if you don't listen and he is desperate then he'll bite your hands & if you still won't listen he will go and bite the couch and growl at it - its so funny to watch because after every attempt you can just imagine him face palming!

I know, it scares me some times...lol

Me too!!! I'm always telling Ivan that I wonder if they understand what we're saying and not to change in front of them Yeah, right! Mya goes into the bathroom with me sometimes while I shower and refuses to get out. Oh well.

My lab does this when she wants to be petted, but she is pretty aggressive about it so I ignore her when she does it.
