| Hi, I wanted to introduce myself! I'm Christine from around Dayton, Ohio. My husband, son, and I adopted a husky/husky mix from a local shelter at the end of January. We also have a bluetick coonhound, Charlie, who we adopted a few years ago. Alice, our husky, is around 11 months. She was a stray at the shelter, so we don't really know anything about her background or whether she's all husky or a mix. She's pretty skinny still (was even skinnier when we brought her home), so that makes her look a bit awkward, too. If anyone has any breed guesses, let me know, ha! She's kind of a hellion, but we're working on training classes and trying to get the crazy pulling on the leash calmed down a bit (either I've gotten stronger or she's walking slightly better). We're trying to learn more about huskies Here are some more pictures of her! |

| Thanks!
She has a lot of color variation on her coat. On the back of her ears she has red/brown spots on one and then solid red/brown on the other. Then bottoms of her back legs are more red under her fluffy tufts. I'm thinking her color pattern is called piebald? She's definitely non-standard, ha! |

| She is very beautiful I love her colors. I would say that she does have husky in her because of her blue eyes. I think huskies are the only animal that can get blue eyes. Not sure what she is mixed with though. Maybe a German Shepherd...Maybe, because the "saddle" on her back. |

| Welcome! Alice is really pretty, I love her unique markings! If you're really curious about her mix you can get a DNA kit and they aren't very expensive. From the eyes and her facial features she does look very Husky though I'm originally from Greenville, and I went to grad school in Dayton. I miss living there a lot, it was such a great place to live. _________________ Shadow's Blog Canine Hydrocephalus Support on Facebook "Being the parent of a special-needs pet means living your life constantly poised on the edge of a double-edged sword. | There are a couple of other breeds that I know of that can have blue eyes: Australian cattle dog (my BIL has one and he's got blue eyes) and catahoulas. I'm pretty sure there's no catahoula in her. As for finding out for sure, I agree with Meredith and the DNA tests. |

| Thank you for all the lovely welcomes Are the DNA tests all that accurate? I guess it isn't terribly necessary to know whether she is full husky or not, other than in case she is part Australian shepherd or something for ivermectin sensitivities and things like that. Either way, she's a goofy, spazzy, very energetic dog. |

| Yeah, they are very accurate as long as you get a good kit. I have seen ones that are like 20 bucks that I wouldn't trust, but if you get it from a reputable site, it should be good. |

| I think you can get them from PetSmart, and the good ones are around $65. She does look predominantly Husky though. _________________ Shadow's Blog Canine Hydrocephalus Support on Facebook "Being the parent of a special-needs pet means living your life constantly poised on the edge of a double-edged sword. | I would say mostly husky. I dunno about those DNA kits though. I don't know what kit the shelter uses here, but I've seen pictures of the dogs and what the test said they were and it looked REALLY off on a lot of them. I honestly don't think it is necessary to use those kits. She looks almost all husky to me. And yes her pattern is called piebald.
And +1 that there are other breeds with blue eyes. Australian shepherds, border collies, even dalmatians can have blue eyes to name a few. _________________ -Sara |

| I would think the blue eyes would indicate she is mostly husky. What kind of behavior does she have? As far as what else she has in her I would guess Shepherd. Anyway, welcome to the sight from another Ohio resident. |

| Welcome! I'm in Kansas, but I'm originally from around Cleveland. Go Buckeyes and whatnot. Your Alice looks great. She may just be a piebald Husky. |

| The only DNA kits that are even somewhat reliable are the blood analysis ones. The "swab a cheek and send it back!" ones are BS.
She's very pretty, and so unique! _________________ Force Free Training ThreadCheyenne, Mishka, Mickey, Rodeo, & Odin Are you a Husky owner in South Florida?! Join our facebook meetup group! |

| Thank you! She's definitely quite a looker. I've never been too into fluffy dogs, but she's so pretty and soft and cuddly. We get stopped quite often and asked what kind of dog she is when we're out. Whether she's all husky or not, she certainly acts like one, ha! We were honestly not ready for a husky when we brought her home from the shelter despite having a pretty active, high-energy dog (at least when he's outside) to begin with. Now that she's been with us for a few months, we're settling in and she's very comfortable with us. Our biggest issues are housetraining (which is mostly on us -- I need to be more vigilant along with crating more and going back to tethering in the house) and pulling on walks. She's getting better every day with the walks. We have lots of outdoor cats and little animals and deer in our village; Alice likes to try to shoot off and catch everything. Everything is a little less new and crazy exciting, so the crazy walk behavior is getting better. On the plus side, she and our coonhound get along much better and enjoy going to the dog park together. I'm in pretty good shape now too from our extra long walks |

| Not sure how I missed this thread, but late-welcome! You're dog is BEAUTIFUL!!! I agree with the Piebald as well! If you're interested in the DNA Test, I purchased one from Petco about 2 year's ago for around $60 and we got the test back in like 6 weeks. If you go through the vet, it's a lot faster, but more expensive. |
