I bought a female Husky (Luna) from a puppy store about two months ago. She was already four months old in the shop, which I know is really old for a store bought dog. Anyways, I need some help with a few things.
1. I have another dog, a Toy Manchester Terrier, who is seven years old. She is so afraid of Luna. Luna will try to jump on top of her (playfully) and Pixie (the other dog) will snap and snarl, obviously not very playful. I don't know what to do about this. Pixie has always been able to roam free around the house, but now she is afraid to even go outside to use the bathroom, even if Luna is not out there.
2. We are trying to crate train Luna, but she whines all the time. I don't think she's grasping the purpose of the training. If we ever let her just lay in her bed, she will just get up and do her business inside. Anyone know how to make it obvious that outside is the place to go?
3. She nips a lot, only at me and people she knows fairly well. It doesn't happen when she's just letting the kids from the street pet her, she loves new people.

i'm having some similar troubles with my new husky too!

Since she was a bought from a puppy store, chances are she was taken from her mother and litter mates too early and given no training, so you're job just got a lot harder. The first few times I put Siku in a crate she screamed for hours. She was only 6 weeks then (yes, I got her too young also, they should never leave their litter before 8 weeks) and I just used tough love. I would totally ignore her when she cried and eventually she learned crying did nothing to get her out of the crate. I would also give her kong's filled up with treats like peanutbutter, yogurt, kibble, etc. to keep her occupied.

As for potty training, keep her in the crate and when you let her out of the crate take her outside first thing to let her go potty. If she goes potty, treat her and let her back in and play or do whatever with her. If she doesn't go potty after a few minutes, take her back inside and put her in her crate and wait another 30 mins or so and try again.

Husky puppies are very mouthy and usually the mother teaches them to have a gentle mouth, cause if they bite too hard momma milk train gets up and leaves! You will need to work on the nipping thing for a while. Siku was very mouthy until she was about 9 months old, though I taught her pretty quickly to have a gentle mouth or the game stopped and I went in another room.

Luka hated his crate at first... The first time i put him in was only for a couple of minutes... He screamed and screamed and as soon as i found a window of silence i let him out - i did this a couple of times during the day before it was bedtime... Then, at night, i put him in his crate when he was tired and he went to sleep - i went upstairs to bed and not 5minutes past before he was screaming - long story short - the first week - i slept on the floor right outside his crate... usually with the door open until he falls asleep and then i close the door and he would only wake me up to go potty. Now... he only gets up once during the night to go pee if at all! The other day i overslept and he overslept and didn't get breakfast till 10am - the first lie in i've had in over a month!! (yes, now that i have a husky, 10am is considered a lie in!) I've also read and put into practice the "feed your puppy in his crate" "leave random treats in his crate" protocols to help him associate his crate with positive things - Luka loves his crate now and will happily run in when the house is crowded and he is getting too much attention that he can't be bothered for lol! Its like his sanctuary.

I used to take Luka out after every nap, every time (around 5min after) i heard him slurping that water down and every hour or so in between... He tells me when he wants to go now - usually by snapping at me - not ideal but ill take it for now lol. Luna should be able to "hold it" slightly better than he can because she is slightly older. Aside from that, you just have to watch her really closely - and every time she pee's/poo's outside don't forget to praise her plenty and at the start treat her every time!

As for the nipping and biting, we still have to put up with that, although it has got much, much better! Like Luna, Luka also only nips at people he knows well - strangers only see his cute licking side!! Beats me...

What I've been doing and have told everyone to employ is that as soon as he nips at you, he goes straight into his crate and we leave the room - this has worked wonderfully so far but seeing as Luna doesn't "love" her crate yet, you may not want to do this for a couple of weeks until she has becomes accustomed to it.

Now, I've had Luka since he was 8 weeks and we have come a long way... I have no idea how different a 16week old pup will react to the same sort of training. Just my 2 cents, this all seemed to work for me!

I have potty trained 4 puppies in my life and all of them were fairly easy except Willow. She was a total bear to train. She knew immediatly that outside was to potty but it didn't stop her from going inside as well. Her "sign" to need to go outside was very hard to read. My last straw was putting her on a timer. I had a timer go off every 15 minutes to take her outside until she had no accidents inbetween the 15 minutes. I slowly worked the time up until she could hold it for 3 hours at a time and by this time she had learned to ask to go outside. It wasn't fun at first since you are outside constantly but it was better than the alternative. I thought maybe she had a UTI but figured if she could sleep through the night with no issues, then that probably wasn't the issue. I really think she was just a stubborn pup!

My mya is only 11 weeks old. but shes almost 100 percent potty trained. She stays in her crate at night and will bark at me if she needs to go out . usually at 12:30 then again at 6 when my fiancee goes to work. she eats breakfast at 7 then goes out again at 8 and then during the day shell just come up to me and look me in the eye very patiently until it gets bad and then shell start to panic whining and walking around very frantically. finally i caught on. but her having a routine helped alot with hers (:
