| Hello, everyone! My name is Deanna, and I took 2-year old Drake home from a pet rescue two weeks ago. He was about to be euthanized, poor boy. I am a cat lover who has always admired the husky, since I was a little girl. I was looking at adoptable huskies online when I came across Drake. I met him in person and fell in love with his personality. He is very stubborn and dominant, but he is also mellow and affectionate, friendly and playful. I'm brand new to big dogs, so I'm still working on my "pack leader." This forum was recommended to me by a helpful, husky-loving vet tech at my local veterinary hospital. I'm excited to be here and learn from all of you!! Greetings from central California, Deanna Barnes |

| Thank you so much, everyone! So happy to be here! I bet Drake will be happy I joined, too, since I'll be learning all about what his needs are! He is so amazing; how could I not have rescued him? It's an honor to have such a lovely creature in my home and heart. I'm sure you all feel the same way! ;-) - Quote :
- Do you have cats now? Is Drake good with them?
I have three cats who have varying reactions to him. Drake is good with all of them; he either ignores them or invites them to play (which just makes the kitties angry, of course). He does chase one of them around the house when she runs away, but I'm working on training him out of that. He never does anything if he catches her; he just looks at her curiously and waits to see what she'll do. One of the cats is completely unafraid of him and sleeps next to him companionably. I'm hoping to get to that point with the other two someday! I keep reminding myself it's only been two weeks! And it helps that Drake has never shown any aggression toward any creature whatsoever. Still, he is supervised around the kitties, and the cats have a room all to themselves that they use as a sanctuary. Thanks again, everyone, and I'll see you on the boards! |

| Welcome! Now is definitely the time to get him and the cats socialized. Rescues tend to have a grace period before you see them come out of their shells, but based on your description of his personality, he does sound very Husky even now. |

| Welcome to the forum and thank you for rescuing him. He's beautiful!
Be very careful with the cats until you're sure - sometimes all it takes is a cat to run and prey drive kicks in. But it sounds like he's doing really well so far, which is awesome! |
