So Cato has the poops! It just started and I don't know if it is due to food change or what, but do you guys have any suggestions to firm the stool up?

BTW, he has been dewormed. We got him from Karnovanda Kennels, a very reputable breeder and he is healthy.

A bland diet generally helps. Something like boiled chicken and rice. I've heard from other people on here that pumpkin (real pumpkin, not pie filling) works well too.

Did you gradually change his food? What are you now feeding him for kibble?

What were you feeding him, and What are you currently feeding him?

How long ago did you switch his food?

Did you do it gradually or overnight?

It could be any number of things, but you probably just switched him too quickly.

If you switched him too fast it could be causing the diarrhea, or he could have a food allergy to the new food. Don't rule out worms because he could still have them. How many times was he wormed?
He might have eaten something gross on a walk somewhere that's passing through.
Old water can get really gross very quickly and cause diarrhea so make sure you're changing his water daily.

Is he acting weird at all? Appetite different? Energy level okay?

He is fine otherwise. His water is replaced mutliple times a day. He has a vet appointment on Thursday. But, he was wormed twice.

I know I had to worm Sura 4 times to get rid of the buggers! but, he's your dog I trust you know if he's healthy! Razz

Probably isn't anything to worry about. Just keep him hydrated. Smile If you really want peace of mind, bring a stool sample to the vet with you on Thursday.

Oh, I forgot the actually contribution to the thread: Old cheddar cheese. Sura loves it and it helps get her solid.

Puppy Diarrhea Empty

It could very well be that the food is too rich for him at such a young age. I started Bella out on Blue Buffalo and she had terrible diarrhea everyday for about 2 months. The vet had NO idea what was causing it because she didn't get any better on prescription diets.

So from about two and half months old to about four she had diarrhea and I was tired of feeding her overpriced crap prescription diets so I found a decent food (Holistic select) on my own and tried her on that and it actually cleared up all of her diarrhea! I also did an incredibly SLOW transition from Holistic Select to ToTW - like two and a half weeks slow to make sure she was okay on it. I think some of it was that she had gotten a bit older and could handle a slightly more rich food and fortiflora helped also.

I also recommend a piece of cheese or the pumpkin. I use cheese though.

I'll chime in on the pumpkin as well. We will fill kongs with a mixture of plain greek yogurt and canned pumpkin, and then cap the ends with a little peanut butter and freeze them. Both dogs go nuts for them and it's really good for their GI tracts.

Just like Ceara, we had bad problems with Ghost having diarrhea for a few weeks before we figured out it's a grain thing for her. It may be something in the ingredients list, Ghost gets horrible gas from the TOTW High Prairie formula but does fantastic on Pacific Stream. When we were trying to figure it out, we fed her a diet of scrambled egg, green beans, and carrots to reset her system. Good luck!
