1. Here we prefer clarity to agreement. Obviously not everyone is going to agree on a topic; here we prefer to talk out our differences in a respectful manner to ensure mutual understanding and respect.
2. Read the Stickies and Announcements. Each sub-forum may have specific rules which trump the Forum Rules in cases where there may be conflicting information. Read the rules of each board before you post so that you are clear on the expectations of the staff.
3. Respect ALL Staff and Admins. These people volunteer of their time and MUST be respected as well as their word adhered to. They are responsible for maintaining a free, open, clear and organized forum. Anyone found to be openly undermining any official ruling by a staff member will be warned.
4. Signatures: One picture only and no links. Images: To keep the forum looking neat and tidy, we ask that members insert just one picture only in their signatures. The picture should be no more than 200x500 pixels and should be of an appropriate subject, for example, your dogs and their names. Should you need assistance creating an appropriate signature, please PM an Admin and we would be happy to help! This is to ensure that signatures remain a welcome addition to our forum instead of a cumbersome distraction. Links: Hyperlinks in signatures--unless to a personal blog or photo stream of your dogs (like Flckr or Piscasa, for example)--are strictly prohibited. Please PM a staff member with any questions or concerns regarding this rule.

So I thought it might be a good idea to share some of the tricks that you use to keep your baby cool during the "dog days of summer"

We finally had our first nice (above 80 degrees) weekend here in Northern Nevada. Keep in mind that it had been 50's to maybe 60's just before then. We noticed that Sierra was panting a lot and we wanted to see what creative ways you have come up with.

Thanks,
Sonora

they have moisture releasing dog packs, but water and shade are usually the two best answers. It's supposed to be 80 over here tomorrow, and we are going on a 7 mile hike. It's through a lot of forest though, with lots of shade, so i'm not too worried about how keeonah will hold up

Air conditioning for monster. If she's outside I bring bottles of cold water for her and if we're just in the yard she has access to a filled kiddie pool.

The cooling vests.

I wet a scarf and put it in the freeze before our walks when the temps are in the 90's and 100's blaze still thinks he has to walk in the heat it does not stop him much except we don't get as long of one.

I keep my girls inside in the AC most of the time. I like to take them to one dog park that has a pond in it for them to swim. I just took them for a run early this morning (it was still almost 70* ahhhh!) and when I was done I let them in the backyard before letting them in the house. Well I forgot their tub outside had flipped from being on its side and filled up with water from the heavy rain yesterday. So of course they both jumped in it and got all wet! So now they're sitting on the porch, which also has AC, soaking wet.

So for me AC and water.

I just seen a report on keeping your dogs cool in the heat. They say pour and rub water under their arms and along their chest and belly.
