Hi everyone!

Nike is 3 months old and a few days ago her potty training has regressed. Before that she had zero accidents in the last week and a half. Now she is averaging a accident every other day.

For example I took her out 45 minutes ago and she peed aton. 45 mins later she just peed in front of the door , she was like walking and peeing. She used to do this the first few days we got her in front of the door, but hasnt since.

Any advice for me would be greatly appreciated. It is frustrating I thought her potty training was complete and it seems that is it not with this recent regression.

It could be that. But I would also keep in mind that 3 months is very young. It could just take some more time.

The other thing I've learned is that dogs, especially these dogs, are creatures of habit and routine. They don't always think about the things they're doing, ideas just occur to them based on the last time they were in a specific place.

Does she go to the bathroom in the house in the same general area, or is it totally random?

For example, when we adopted our 2-3 year old, she had obviously been housebroken. However, she was stressed and in a new home and everything, and she had some accidents. From that moment on, even though she'd also go to the bathroom outside, when she found herself in the places where she had the accidents, she would do it again.

I don't think it's as simple as her still being able to smell the scent. That's part of it, but it's shallower than that. On some level, she was just remembering "Oh yeah, I went to the bathroom yesterday behind the couch, let me do it again." And she was doing it constantly even though we would clean the hell out of the areas with all those animal products. Once we realized it had just become her pattern, we blocked off her access to those areas for a couple weeks until she forgot all about it, and the problem was solved. And we've used this technique for all kinds of issues with her, not just bathroom ones. She loves her patterns, so sometimes when she gets set on a bad one, we have to "reset" her by not letting her follow that particular pattern for awhile.

If the locations your dog is using are totally random, then I'd say it's something else. But if they're the same area over and over, I think you just need to block that area off to kind of hit the reset switch on her.

^^ both above statements are true. If she was walk peeing and it was just a dribble, it could in fact be a UTI, and also remember a puppy will not have full control of their bladders until around 9 months of age.

I dealt with the same issue with Keeonah recently, to the point where I yelled at her. I felt bad afterward, because in reality it was my fault. I missed her warning signs.

As they get better about letting you know they have to go, we start to give them premature leeway, at least in my instance. Plus i just got her one of those self dispensing gravity water bowl thingy's so she can drink as much as she wants, cause I couldn't keep up with a normal bowl. As we think their potty training progresses, was start giving them more and more time between potty breaks, because we think they can tolerate it. Sometimes the bladder just can't keep up though

We want to believe they will let us know every time they have to go out, but sometimes they just can't hold it. You have to discipline them if you catch them doing it though. Even if it isn't necessarily their fault, you still have to reinforce that peeing inside is wrong.
