I'm currently in the market for my first ever husky so figured I'd join a forum and learn up on the breed.

Sibes have always been my favorite dogs, but I knew they were for the advanced dog owner. I tired my hand at a german shepherd first and things are going fantastic with her. I figured it was about time she had a companion, so here we are looking into getting a husky playmate!

Welcome snow white, where do you live? since you have a GDS already would you look at adopting a husky for a play mate?

I am definitely open to adopting a husky since I know so many need homes. I have my eye on a breeder but nothing is set in stone until I go check the place out. I'm in southern maryland.
My only real condition is that it's a male. Girl dogs like to attach themselves to my husband!

I am not much help, I think everyone should have a malamute! However welcome!!!

Lol Mal's are gorgeous dogs as well!

By the way, if anyone happens to know a reputable sibe breeder in Maryland do let me know in-case mine doesn't work out!

Another 2nd in looking to adopt or rescue if the breeder route doesn't come together.

Brewer is our first rescue, and most certainly will not be our last.

If you contact some of the breeders listed, even if they don't have puppies themselves, they can probably point you to a reputable breeder who does have puppies.

Remember the two biggest health problems in sibes are eyes and hip problems, so make sure whatever breeder you use gets the adults eyes certified by CERF yearly as "clear" and hips certified after the age of 2yrs by OFA as excellent or good. Personally I would look for a breeder who raises their puppies in the house with them, so they have a better start in life to being good house dogs. Also look for a breeder who will ask you a ton of questions. Reputable breeders really care about their puppies and will want to make sure the homes they place their puppies in will be good homes.

Keep an eye on the pet harbor rescue as well. They do get puppies from time to time. I had a very good experience with them when getting Dante. They also do events in the springfield, va petsmart, so you wouldn't have to go all the way to bowling green.

My mom's been looking into adaptapet.com; can anyone verify the validity of this site? I think what they do is find rescues.

They are giving a husky away in my area, but it's a female.

I think I want to start off with a puppy to be honest, I want to crate train it myself.

Anyone know of good breeder in Maryland, or have savvy skills to help find one?

Just to be sure you really want a Husky: First you should bring home a stick of dynamite, put it in your living room and light it on fire. If you still love your baby dynamite stick even after it goes off, then I'd say you'll enjoy having a husky.
