I have a 14-week old Husky, and have had him for about 5 weeks now. When we first got him, he was very skiddish, scared, and never let us get close to him to pet him or anything. He stays indoors with us, and we have a fairly large house. He has gotten a little better with his socialability, but still won't let us pet him. I have even held out treats for the him, which he slowly approaches and takes from my hand and runs away. Whenever I try take him outside and walk him or to use the bathroom, or when I mention the words "let's go outside Three" (his name is Three), he starts to whine, but he goes straight to the door and waits for me to put his leash on. I have two young daughters, two and one years of age, and at dinner time, the Husky comes up to them and they give him table scraps, and he eats it out of their hands. (We don't encourage this, but we only catch them doing it once in a while) So basically, my question is will my Husky ever be more sociable with me or my family? Will we be able to pet him and he not be scared of us? Thanks everyone for your responses....

They are very pack orientated but they are also very independent.... As he matures, his personality will come out. Some huskies love a cuddle all the time, some of them sometimes enjoy a hug and some of them love you from a distance

I think I read all your posts and I would guess that your little guy is just a little bit nervous as he adjusts to your house with kids. Do you know what the house/kennel was like where he came from? I would guess (from personal experience) that a house with two toddlers in it is loud...and things are falling...and kids are falling...and kids are throwing things.... This is just the home that he now has and will get used to. Eventually he will LOVE those two little girls and, as he gets bigger, he will have less fear of getting "squished" by toys or girls! I would also guess that his coming to you and pressing into your hand means that he sees you a comfort and maybe the calm and stable one in the house. All this is just a guess... Do you have a crate for him or a special "den" where he can go to get away from the kids and noise that comes with the kids if he ever wants to. Sometimes too much mayhem can stress a little guy out. Also, you should not actually run with a puppy so young. His bones and joints are still growing and developing so you do not want to cause damage to them. My hubby just started some running with Sabaka (16 months old) a couple months ago. Multiple walks are good for him and he will need them. You can also encourage free running on a grassy surface at a dog park, in a fenced in yard or on a long leash. Good luck with you new little guy and welcome to best forum on the web!

Thank you all for the very informative advice. Three is my first Husky; I've owned small dogs and cats in the past so it is all a learning experience for me. I truly appreciate all of your comments and recommendations.
