Subject: HELP!!! Hayden won't stop screaming! Wed Feb 15, 2012 1:37 am
Hayden has been screaming in his crate at night for 3 nights in a row! I get about 3-4 hours of on/off sleep. He's gone to the bathroom, has a bully stick, toys, bed, blanket, and water and he's STILL doing the death scream! I'm going crazy lol!!! Anyone have any advise??
Sorry it's dark. I was laying in bed attempting to get sleep. FML

Aw
How old is he? Bella screamed her head off - bloody murder (actually a lot worse than what Hayden is doing =/) in her crate. I didn't crate her at all from 10 weeks old.

OH my gosh that is so weird!! we have a new puppy named Hayden. He is now 8 weeks old. We have had a few problems like this. The first night he screamed and screamed, my daughter ended up sleeping with him she was so exhausted. The next night we put him with our other Husky Carmine he is 7 months old, he snuggled up and went right to sleep. We gave him a week to adjust, then because he was pooping in Carmine's kennel, wemoved him to his own. The first few nights were murder he cried and cried. After putting his crate up against Carmines he was fine. Its hard to listen to them cry, but eventually they get the idea.
I would honestly suggest not talking to him, or maybe moving him from your room.. As long as he knows you are nearby he is going to pitch a fit. Some pups never do well in crates, our older Husky Chloe gets anxiety and panic attacks when she is kenneled so she has never been in one for long periods of time. She has slept with my daughter since she was about 10 weeks old.
I wish you luck, puppy hood is exhausting.

Hayden is 15 weeks and hasn't done this since I first brought him home! It's crazy and driving me nuts!! I'm like a zombie working Weird thing is he likes his crate and goes in there willingly and sleeps in it during the day w/no problem! It's just the night when he has issues. I swear I need to start sleeping with a bottle of Holy water next to my bed and sprinkle it on him at night haha. The dog acts possessed!
We tried having the crate it a different room and that was HORRIBLE and he screamed way worse than in this video! When I put him in my room it stopped, but for some strange reason he's been acting up the last few nights. I tried letting him sleep in bed with me, but he would rather play and pester the other dogs and he will poop on the floor at night too, so I'm trying crating again.

Rocky does this too now, when we first got him he cried like 5x worse than that, and then he got used to it so we would put him in his crate at bed time up intil 3 weeks ago, he started doing the same thing, he doesn't sleep in any of our rooms he sleeps in the living room by our back door because it's the coolest spot in our house. But he started crying like that again recently, and then one day he was outside and my dad went to get him and refused to come in, he just stayed on his mat that he has, so he slept outside that night, and now he either wants to sleep outside (he's chipped and we have this roof part that extends an extra 6 ft over our patio and we have the netting around it that zips up to keep bugs out in the summer, so he sleeps in that) or I have to sleep on the couch in the living room with him & he sleeps on the floor.
The only way he'll stop crying in his crate is if my dad gets up and tells him to be quiet, it is RIDICULOUS how Rocky obeys my dad, but it becomes an issue because I get off work at 11 pm and everyone else wakes up early in the morning for school and work so I just sleep on the couch to keep him from crying the nights he doesn't want to be outside.
You can try covering the crate... I've done that. Honestly it's just a phase that you're going to have to get through. I know it sucks. Odin was sooo bad in the beginning with the crate. Barely got any sleep. But one night he just stopped and that was that. Never again.
at the possessed comment! Sorry, I literally laughed out loud at that at my desk. Oops.
Ok, seriously though. I FEEL YOUR PAIN!!! Kody was always fine staying in his crate during the day and would go in there on his own since the day we got him. Now, at night it was A TOTALLY DIFFERENT STORY!!! We started leaving him uncrated after about 2 weeks of him crying all night long. He's slept with us ever since. At first he would harass Mya to play, but he cut that out and it's fine ever since.
I tried not crating him at night and had 5 dogs in bed with me lol ... all the other dogs sleep and there's Hayden barking and trying to get everyone to play, but my other dogs are like growling at him to stop, but he keeps on "talking back" lol ... i'm like omg dog just SLEEEEEEP!!! Plus, I sprained my ankle really bad last week and I'm in a cast, so Hayden's walks have been cut, so maybe that's the problem, he's just restless? I put him on the treadmill 2 nights ago and he didn't seem to like it too much haha ... I wasn't using a harness, I should probably pick one of those up to make it easier on both of us.
That may be the problem. Dakota has done the same thing in the past whether it was in the daytime or at bedtime. I simply had to try and play with him more. After only a few days, he would start to go in his cage at bedtime whenever he got tired enough from playing! Do your best to wear him out and see how it works! I know it's a chore but it definitely comes with owning a husky!

Well we're going on night 4 of Hayden's fits! It only lasted 15 minutes tonight, Which is an improvement, so I'll take it! hehe

Oh my gosh.. I made the mistake of watching it/ listening to it without headphones in...... I dog sit and I have two little guys here that FREAKED out which made my two freak.. I still can't calm them down !!
Haha Indy's so cute!!!! I love when they "talk" like that. Adorable!
Kelly, has Hayden slept through the night since you posted the second video?
He still act's up a little in the crate when the door is shut, but if it's left open he's fine. He doesn't sleep in the crate at night, he REFUSES! He will only sleep on the floor next to my bed.

Does it ever worry you that he'll soil in the house if he's not crated at night? Kota's mom (my neighbor's husky) is perfectly crate trained but if they allow her to sleep outside her crate at night she never fails to poop in the living room haha.
But more on topic: It looks like he's calming down a bit! Kota has yet to give us trouble in the crate at night (*crosses fingers*) but that's because we wear him out a tonnn in the backyard before bedtime. He'll usually come inside, try to grab a toy, miss and go straight for bed haha. Best of luck with Hayden!
Hayden has been sleeping out of the crate for quite a few weeks now with no accidents. The only time I put him in there is if he is too hyper at night time (which is rare). He's really good about holding it throughout the night
