Alternative to the slide-out pans in wire crates? Empty

Just wondering if anyone has any ideas about a replacement for the slideout trays in the wire crates because ours is.....ummmm.......in about 50 pieces. I can't say I'm surprised he destroyed it because it was REALLY flimsy plastic. Ideally a replacement would be chew-proof and dig-proof, and not cost elventy-billion dollars.

I'm thinking of stapling the crate to a piece of OSB (so he can't dig up our pine plank floors) and upholstering a piece of cement board and zip-tying it into the bottom so he can't slide it out. We've got everything here to do that, but I'm not sure about the chew-proofness of cement board.

We had a metal floor in ours. I think it came from a feed supply store. Then a couple of carabiner clips at the opening kept it from sliding out.

I've had one with a steel pan in the bottom for 1,000 years now. There is a little rust spot forming and I fear having to replace it with something else. Those plastic ones are junk. There are commercial quality crates but I haven't seen trays sold separately. I've casually browsed the internet for a replacement for mine. It wasn't looking good...

I'll be interested to hear what you do.

Wow. I didn't really look around much, but I didn't expect they'd be this expensive...

Heh, I bet mine is all rusted out on the side of the shed where all of the junk is crammed.

wow! $71 dolars for a 42" pan! :/ thats loads, my crate came with a metal pan as well, seems to hold up pretty well but then again, my guy is only a pup! But regardless, for that price, i could just buy a new crate lol.
