Hello everyone. My name is Jake and this is my baby girl Nala. She is going on 6 months old now. For the most part she is really well behaved. I can already leave her alone in the house without being locked up. She has never once chewed o anything she isnt supposed to and is already fully house trained. But I think shes starting to become a bit of a teenager. Her energy has skyrocketed and she has become very vocal in the past 2 weeks, and man does she like to talk back lol. I have raised 5 dogs now (and im only going on 23). But this is my first husky. Does anybody have any advice on how to deal with a husky during the time they are growing up and what I should come to expect?

Yeah they really are a different breed. I've had a Shetland Sheep Dog, a Dalmatian, Boston Terrier, and Chocolate Lab. Nala is by far the smartest one yet. She's been really easy to train so far, I'm just going to need to take her for loger walks now that her energy is rising and her attitude is becoming more like that of a teen.

I have had lots of breeds, right now other than Axel I have Bella, my boxador, but she is only 6 months old and Axel doesn't know how to handle all her energy, hes actually pretty lazy so far for a husky :p either way I take him walking every morning with my kids taking them to school, its a good 20 min walk, then hubby will take him walking during the day, then after school me and Ax go walk and pick them up :p good exercise for me too i guess haha.

| I don't have much advice. I got Blaze when he was a teenager ( he was 9 months) The only thing I thought to do was walk him twice a day which we did during the heat of the summer. Is there dog parks where you are at these dogs love them or so Blaze and every husky I seen at the dog park.

Welcome! The biggest advice I can give is set boudaries and stay consistent! My Willow is the most stubborn and willful dog I have ever had the pleasure to deal with. Let me tell you I had to set boundaries real quick with her. She doesn't talk but still talks back to me in her actions, if that makes sense. There were times I wanted to give up some of my rules because she challenged me at every turn but I am so glad that I didn't. She really has turned into such a good dog and I have very little issues with her now. She is a year and half. She's very smart and needs the mental stimulation. I'm sure this is something that your Nala is wanting as well. Keep her mind occupied and interested. Mental stimulation also helps with exhausting their energy. You will still probably need to step up the walks to help with the energy. I find that two walks a day, morning and night, really help mine mellow out the rest of the time.

Welcome! I know exactly what you're talking about w/them being different from any other breed of dog! I've had Dalmatians, Yorkies, Beagle, German Shepherds, and a Pit and the Husky is in a category all in their own! So much fun and very challenging! I love how goofy they are too! I can't see the pix for some reason

Welcome! Nala is gorgeous! I agree with Mindy, setting boundaries and having rules and routine really help with the teenage stage. They test just like human teenagers and if you budge, even once, they think they can walk all over you. NILIF really helped when Kale was going through his "rebellious" stage lol and of course everyone here on the forum gives their moral support when you truly need it Kale and I say HELLLOOO from California!

Shes pretty, but be careful with letting her chase the cats, especially as she gets older!
