I found an ad from 1/25 on craigslist....guess who? KODA!

I think it's funny that they wanted her to go to a good family, r wanted to know about you, etc. I guess after nobody wanted to pay them for her they just decided to dump her at the shelter. Makes me so mad!!! I think I'm going to email this idiot.

I didn't notice the other husky either!!! Man, that's so messed up that they took the other doggies friend! I know they said that she doesn't get along with other dogs, but apparently she's doing OK with Drake. Makes me so mad!

Oh well, at least she's with you now!! Yay!

I replied to the Craigslist ad and asked why she got rid of her. She wrote back "Because she didn't get along with my other female dogs".

Obviously she hasn't had her since she was a puppy, or else she wouldn't just now be having problems...I wrote her back and said that we owned her now and asked for her story...we'll see if she writes back.

Her birthday is coming up!!!

Oh wow! I guess we know her birthday now...she's gonna be 2 in twelve days.

I just don't understand how you can say you want a home inspection and vet reference and then just dump her. AND none of that explains why you can feel her ribs and spine and is SO underweight....

You adopted her from a rescue, right? I know that she was with a foster that wanted to maybe keep her, but didn't because she didn't get along with her two older dogs. So the rescue got her from a shelter and placed her in the foster home? My bad, if you already explained this. I have a horrible memory sometimes

The rescue picked her up from a shelter (she was placed in an overnight box in the middle of the night) and then she went to the foster who had two older female dogs. She did say that Koda was getting along with the other husky, Sitka, by the end of the week...I'm just worried about her initial aggression. I'm hoping that can be "trained" out of her...at this point I"m fearful to take her to my parents' house who have a 5 year old female dog....they would hate me if something happened to her.

So...umm....this just got very weird. I emailed the lady asking what her story was...here was her reply:
"would love to talk to you and tell you everything about Koda.you can call me tomarrow between 8- 10 and 1-4 is the best times.thanks"

The weird thing is, I never mentioned that we named her Koda...that means that she was referring to what she had named the dog...how crazy is that?!?!

I feel like the whole situation is weird. You love the dog and want to find a good home, but then you drop off at a shelter in the middle of the night. You don't even take her in to let them know she's already spayed, so now she has a huge bald patch on her belly that will take months to grow back. Not to mention that she is extremely skinny and underweight...I'm not really sure if I should say anything to her about it, but I can't help but be pretty pissed off at whoever this lady is.

Well, I talked to Koda's former owner today and got the full story. Surprisingly, this lady had Koda since 5 months old. They have a male husky and two small female dogs (one is a poodle). She said that Koda got along fine with the male but terrorized the females, and apparently the poodle was very afraid of her. She claims they tried to work with her for a year but it never got better...that's when they tried to rehome her. They ended up giving her to a younger single woman...Apparently she had her 4-5 days. This lady claims that she called the girl to check up on Koda, and the girl said it didn't work out because she pooped on the floor and chewed a shoe...the girl had dropped her off at the shelter instead of calling the lady (Sue) and giving her back. Apparently Koda was left alone pretty much all day and night without getting walked or exercised, no wonder she pooped on the floor.
Anyway, Sue said she was very upset and called the pound, but they told her SHRF was already on the way to get Koda. They wouldn't let Sue come take her back. She even said that she told the pound she was up to date with all vaccinations and was spayed (apparently that message didn't get passed on...).
She seemed really happy that she had a good home now, said that she was very sweet but they just couldn't get it to work with the other dogs...

Oh, I also mentioned Koda's weight...she said that before she gave her to this girl she weighed about 42 pounds...I find it hard to believe that Koda could lose that much weight in one week, but maybe if this girl completely neglected her it's possible.

Anyway, I'm glad that we know her story now and at least she was only abused/neglected for a few days and not her whole life.

I'm not sure if this is good news or bad news, but either way I'm glad you got the story straight! I'm so glad you and you're husband have Koda and she's in a wonderful home now!

I read this earlier and got your message on FB, but didn't have time to reply. At least now you know her history. That lady couldn't have tried that hard to find her a good home if the girl she gave her to got rid of her a few days later. You better believe I would totally interrogate you if I was considering giving you a dog that I've had for a year! On the other hand she did take the time to speak with you so that shows that she cared/cares about Koda at least a little.

So glad that she found awesome parents and a brother too!

Wow, well she did care but how much to let her go to that girl in the first place...

While sometimes peoples hearts are in the right place, their heads are not... People who don't know how to rightly go about rehoming or adopting out a dog can be won over with statements and empty promises rather than interviewing.

I think putting a dog on Craigslist is the worse thing, I don't like that people post their pets on there. I have seen Maggie's brothers on CL and I had to message her breeder. It is soo sad!!

Well I found Axel on craigslist but the couple interviewed me, asked all sorts of husky related stuff, and we keep in contact, I send hr pictures of Ax and we talk about lots of stuff, but I know that alot of people just put theme out there then thats it end of story who knows the rest :/
