| I think Dakota is getting bored with his BBW puppy food that I've been giving him so I think I'm going to transition him to TOTW puppy food next. He's about 10.5 weeks old and he eats about 2-2.5 cups of food per day with three or four feeding times. I was just wondering what ya'll's opinion was on which TOTW puppy formula I should feed him. I want Dakota to get to be as big as possible. At his 9 week checkup he was about 15 pounds and not at all overweight!! So I want him to keep up the growth. Any suggestions? |

| I went ahead and got the Sierra Mountain Formula. It's for all life stages so Dakota will be good on that. I'll have to try the salmon flavored one next time! |

| Ummm...I don't think you can feed him anything that's going to make him bigger than he's genetically going to get. lol. Keep him on a good quality diet and at a good weight and he'll be fine. If you do find some magic formula that will get him to grow bigger do tell! lol. I need Elara to grow just a half inch taller! She's so close to breed standard and that just another fault in the show ring. _________________ -Sara |

I found it.....STEROIDS! Linda/John- I'm not really sure what to tell ya. Perhaps someonie else can give you better advice on that . I had a similar problem with Dakota. I think it was because I was feeding him too much at one time and too many treats during the day (I tend to spoil him lol). To solve it I simply cut down on the treats and split his food up more during the day which added a meal. |

| Neo wouldn't eat and was getting skinny so I started feeding him some raw chicken and mixing canned mackeral in with his dry food. Now he has the appetite of a champ. |

| All the TOTW formulas are decent, I wouldn't say that any one is particularly better than another. Different dogs do better or worse on different formulas which you'll have to discover via trial and error. Rotation is something I highly recommend and it will allow you to try the different formulas and see what works best for your particular dog. _________________ |

| if you are gunna rotate the different formulas of TOTW would you have to slowly mix each formulas together each time you switch the formulas? So you would have two bags of food laying around at all times |

That all depends on the individual dog and how sensitive they are to having their food changed. Some can switch cold turkey just fine, others need a more gradual switch. And the gradual switch can be done over a week long period for most dogs so no, you shouldn't need to have 2 bags of food at all times. _________________ |

| Since my female is sensitive, I do keep both on hand. Sometimes I mix Honest Kitchen with a kibble topper. Sometimes I feed all THK. Sometimes I feed all kibble. Yes, call me crazy, but keeping it like this, especially for my female, allows me to switch between THK and kibble anytime I want without the transition. I wouldn't have to do this with my boy.
At the dog show this past weekend, I stopped at the Evo/Innova booth and picked up some samples. As I was talking to one of the reps, I asked about transitioning food. She said the reason for transition period between 2 different dog food or fomulas is to allow the dog to get used to the differencein percentage in fat and carbohydrate content. I can't remember which way (increase or decrease in fat and carb content), but she stated when there is a big change in the percentages of fat/carb, the dog's body produces additional fluids to compesate for the change, hence the soft or runny stools when switching too fast. She then went on to say that if the 2 different kibbles have similar percentages in fat and carb content, then a faster/shorter transition is allowed. If the fat and carb percentages are equal, you should be able to make the switch without transition.
That's what she said....That's what their manufacturing researchers found is what she said...
So take for what it's worth....

| we switch cold turkey but that is because S&J can handle the switch and i think it is also because i keep one constant food, the nature domain (fish) then i switch flavors with in TOTW. Jack gets a 50/50 mix on the food and sierra has a 3 way mix with 2 being constant and the TOTW changing. All depends on your dog. _________________ |
