| I am starting handling classes soon to get Icon started in conformation, I'm just wondering if anyone else on this site shows their huskies? I am curious as to how different this will be compared to his obedience/basic obedience/ advanced obedience classes. He was also in a rally obedience class but he didn't like it bc it was hot out when the class was going on... I guess wish me luck:) Icon has his canine good citizen title and he competed in an akc puppy match when he was 4 months old, so he couldn't score any points yet. |

| I just don't want to go in looking like an idiot, you know I know barely anything about conformation I just hear they're really strict so I am trying to get all my bases covered before I attempt it. |

| With that amount of work already put in I'm sure you'll breeze right through it. Never shown a dog or seen a live show myself. Sounds like you're a bit nervous. It looks simple from the big leather chair in the living room. It's a class, I assume that means you have somewhere to screw up. |

| Good luck! I'm not sure that we have any show dogs on here yet, so you might be our first! Let us know how it goes... and hopefully someone with showing experience will join soon _________________ www.itsahuskything.com It's a husky thing... you wouldn't understand. |

| Well thought I would update everyone on how Icon's conformation classes are going: First off: we decided to go with a different class that is about 55 minutes away from my house, and on a different time zone. So, we left for class around 8 our time and the class started at 8 their time and went for an hour, and we just arrived home about 23 min ago or so... Yikes! But it's really fun! It's cool because the kennel club that hosts it has a different instructor each week so the dogs get experience with a multitude of different judges, and it's an open class so I'm not paying for 8 weeks of once weekly training even if I can't make it one week or whatever, I come when I can, drop 5 bucks in the lady's hand, and pick up where I left off:) There was actually a couple mastiff pups there that, well, really aren't pups anymore, but they go to my clinic. They got HUGE! A breeder that I have been in contact with for a few months introduced me to this place and she takes her pups there. They are gorgeous babies:) but sadly they weren't there this week:( Icon did absolutely amazing, but, as these things normally go, I still have a lot to learn... But hey that's what I'm there for right? And it's so fun I can't wait til next week! |

| Look for a local kennel club. There's a list of kennel clubs on AKC's website. Did Scarlett's breeder show their dogs? If so they could point you in the right direction. _________________ -Sara |

| Once she gets all her puppy shots and rabies shot, you can start. I found a plain old puppy class helped, cause it got Elara used to other dogs around her and that she wasn't allowed to act up on leash. I started her conformation classes as soon as she was done with puppy class. Where in NC are you? I think there is a siberian club in NC. I wish there was one in FL!!!! _________________ -Sara |

I don't think the club has a website, but I think it is still active. They put on a match last year and I think a speciality too. _________________ -Sara |

| Sara I wish there was a club here in FL also. There used to be one a long long time ago. But their just isn't a real interest with people showing sibes. I would love to get into the conformation but I would need a sibe with papers. |

| Yeah, I wish that club was still around. I think all the FL breeders are too spread out to actually form a club, plus there are some really bad ties between a few different groups, sadly.
You could always become friends with a breeder and see if you can show one of their dogs. If you get good at it, you can even charge! lol. There are a lot of professional handlers out there. _________________ -Sara |
