Forum Rules
1. Here we prefer clarity to agreement. Obviously not everyone is going to agree on a topic; here we prefer to talk out our differences in a respectful manner to ensure mutual understanding and respect.
2. Read the Stickies and Announcements. Each sub-forum may have specific rules which trump the Forum Rules in cases where there may be conflicting information. Read the rules of each board before you post so that you are clear on the expectations of the staff.
3. Respect ALL Staff and Admins. These people volunteer of their time and MUST be respected as well as their word adhered to. They are responsible for maintaining a free, open, clear and organized forum. Anyone found to be openly undermining any official ruling by a staff member will be warned.
4. Signatures: One picture only and no links. Images: To keep the forum looking neat and tidy, we ask that members insert just one picture only in their signatures. The picture should be no more than 200x500 pixels and should be of an appropriate subject, for example, your dogs and their names. Should you need assistance creating an appropriate signature, please PM an Admin and we would be happy to help! This is to ensure that signatures remain a welcome addition to our forum instead of a cumbersome distraction. Links: Hyperlinks in signatures--unless to a personal blog or photo stream of your dogs (like Flckr or Piscasa, for example)--are strictly prohibited. Please PM a staff member with any questions or concerns regarding this rule.

From my understanding - you can only have one person's contact information on a chip? Please correct me if I'm wrong. At least that's what I was told when I got Bella chipped. But even if a breeder chipped their puppies the information would be changed to the new families when they got the puppy which still wouldn't allow the puppy to be found by the breeder if it ended up in a shelter. That's going off of what I was told about only having one person's information on the chip though.

The person that registers the chip has control over the contact information. Most rescues register the chip with their contact information so they can track the animal post adoption. If the animal then ends up in the shelter the rescue can tie the chip to the owner by cross referencing the adoption information. A responsible breeder could do the same.

Commercial breeder typically refers to a licensed breeder that is inspected either by the USDA or a state organization. The label however makes no difference in how they run their operation. Since the laws and inspections are very liberal. In Oklahoma if you have 11 or more breeding females you need a license, the rest go unregulated.

Thanks for all of that info, Kristina! Like i said though - some responsibility falls upon the parent clubs to take care of and others fall upon the judges - partially for never having to go back to judging school (I don't know what goes into becoming a judge but that's the best I could come up with >.>) and also because many judges judge multiple breeds. No breeder should EVER breed for color/looks. (unless you're using the word "look" to describe how the dog structurally looks to meet the standard?)

That I didn't know. Thank you Smile. Then speaking from that point I don't know if/how many breeders than do that - I didn't ask any that I know if they chip their own puppies - but I do know some/most require the puppy to be chipped via the contract.

I understand now where our differences came from! Smile

In PA it's 26 dogs before you have to get a license. =/
