Bodhi's sick Empty
PostSubject: Bodhi's sick   Bodhi's sick EmptyMon Feb 13, 2012 7:18 pm

Bodhi went to doggy day care for the first time last Wednesday.
I am going out of town for five days to ski in Utah, and my wife needs someplace for him to get his doggy ya-ya's out when I am away and he can't run. Apparently all was fine.
Friday night he stayed in the car while we went out to dinner and tore up the blanket on the back seat pretty well. I couldn't see if he had eaten any of the stuffing.
Saturday AM, he had diarrhea on our run. Not bad, but the first time since I've had him. I fed him regularly that day. No poops the rest of the day, which is unusual for him.
Sunday AM, he had diarrhea again on the run. I held off on food for 12 hours and gave him one tsp. of PeptoBismal. He vomited mucus several times during the day. That night I fed him a small bland dinner, Natural Balance Limited Ingredients canned dog food.
This AM he did not explode out of his crate in the morning like usual. He is usually very happy to see me, jumping up and woo-wooing, doggy kisses. He just walked out and lay down. Then he was not interested in food at all. This is a dog for whom food is one of the major joys of life.
I knew something was wrong, so I took him to the vet with a fecal sample. The vet couldn't find any parasites or worms in his stool. He said that didn't mean they weren't present. He said that bad bacteria to good bacteria ratio was out of wack. He palpated his stomach and couldn't find an obstruction. Bodhi was very dehydrated , so he hydrated him with an IV, and sent me home with an antibiotic, metronidazole, and cerenia for vomiting,
Bodhi is supposed to be markedly better in the morning or I am supposed to bring him back to have his stomach X-rayed.
Fingers crossed that tomorrow he will be back to his old ('bounce') self.

Aw, poor Bodhi! I hope he feels better quickly!

I have a sick kitty on my hands, and Ghost wasn't interested in breakfast this morning and has apparently been moping around the house all day. I hope I don't have anything serious going on in the house.

Awe, poor fuzzy guy! Hope he is feeling better soon!

P.S. Michael, we are fostering a rescued husky that came in as a stray and had no name. Everyone at the shelter kept calling to him, "here Buddy", so I cleverly changed his name to "Bodhi", since it sounded so similar and I love Bodhi's name...and he is one of my favorite's here on the site! Very Happy

He is actually Bodhi Blue Eye...since the other one is brown. lol!

Tuesday AM: The vomiting stopped, but he's still got diarrhea and he's not eating.
This morning, he didn't want to come out of his crate. He just lay there looking at me.
But I found a tick attached and bloated on his leg.
I didn't know ticks were around in winter, even a mild one.
I hope that's it.
Back to the vet this morning.

Lucy had a tick a week ago, they're always around =/

I'm glad the vomiting has stopped, that's at least a step in the right direction. Could you try giving him some more pepto?

Back from the vet $413 poorer.
They did a barium x-ray and declared that Bodhi was clear- no blockage.
But they don't know why he wouldn't eat, was vomiting and had diarrhea.
He acts perkier tonight.
He's not vomiting.
But he still hasn't eaten since Sunday night.

If he won't eat tomorrow morning, I'm canceling my ski trip to Utah.
I'd be too worried to enjoy it.

Aw, I hope Bodhi gets over this quickly! Ghost seems to be better tonight which is a relief, but I still have sick Kitty, and if he's still sick I'm going to be a wreck on the honeymoon. Does your vet have any idea what the problem might be? They couldn't find anything on Ghost's labs but she's responded really quickly to the antibiotics they gave us.

The vet ruled everything out.
Parasites or worms, nothing in his stool.
Virus, nothing in his blood.
Blockage, nothing in his stomach.
He gave me antibiotics to give him for two weeks.
At least he's drinking tonight.
Hopefully, he'll eat in the morning.

Aww I hope he feels better. Please note that Metronidazole is a nasty antibiotic. It makes dogs feel miserable. It can be harsh on the tummy. We had to give it to our dogs once because they were eating each other's poop, and last year my dad brought his new adopted dog to our house. Not knowing that his dogs diarrhea could be something more than a change of diet or stress. Next every pup in my house had diarrhea, he had passed something on to my dogs that caused quite a messy poop explosion in the house. Oddly when I took our one Husky to the vet for it, she tested her for Parvo, because none of the stool samples had any sort of parasite in them. She just went ahead and gave me Metronidazole for all the dogs. Everyone was back to normal in a week or so.

I send best wishes to you and your Bodhi.

Jo

He was better this morning. He ate half his breakfast and drank normally. We ran 5 miles without problems. He didn't seem quite as bouncy as usual. No poop last night or this morning.

So I am tentatively thinking he's recovering from whatever it was, and I am going on my trip. In Utah, I'll get to meet Riley's Appa.

Delilah looks a lot like my second husky, Tasha.
