| My husband and I were in a bind to find a rental home, as the house we were in has air conditioning problems, and they don't allow huskies in base housing here. So we found this great house. It was 90% fenced. It had thee 6 ft privacy fences on each side and the back of the house, and 3-4 foot picket fence across the front yard. We just had to buy materials and finish building a gate across the driveway. Tipsy (the husky) took off a couple times before we got the gate built, but we always got to her before she got too far. Well I noticed one day she was gone after we built the gate. Our other dog was really upset and took me right to the place she got out. She had dug a hole at the base of the fence that wasn't under ground. I got her back in and we filled the hole. Then both our dogs got out 3 days in a row and were gone for hours at a time before a neighbor would bring them home. We couldn't figure it out. We finally found a hole in the fence behind a tree the fence was built in to. So for about a week we had no incidents once we patched the hole. Then Tipsy started disappearing again. We were at  loss. We knew huskies were notorious for escaping but we also knew she was too tiny to jump the fence. She was the runt so she is very small for a full grown female. 2 days ago we finally caught her climbing the fence. Brat. I placed plywood in the area she would go to, to climb, and she just uses it for traction. I've already caught her 3 times this morning as she climbs over. I'm at a loss as to what we should do. If i do a tie out it would have to be ridiculously short because the front yard isn't deep, and she would easily reach the fence and hurt herself. In the back yard I can't watch her because the car port/garage blocks the view. I have a baby so I can't always stay out with her. Is there a way to nicely extend the fencing in the front that our land lord would approve? How does everyone feel about underground fences? My mother in law offered me hers, but our trainer was against them. I really need some suggestions. We are in a new neighborhood and im worried someone will take off with her or she will get hit. Help please! |

| Run the wire for an invisible fence attached to the top of the current fenced area. The landlord probably isn't going to want you digging up the yard to bury it underground. It will work fine and since it's on the fence the dogs won't be able to simply run through it like they would if you only had the invisible fence acting as a barrier. Few dogs, even huskies, aren't going to like getting the crap bit out of them the whole time it takes for them to climb the fence and it will make climbing or digging for an extended period of time much harder if they are getting bit before they even get up to the fence. Many people don't think the invisible fences work for huskies but if you train the dogs and don't rely only on the invisible fence you will probably be fine. Look into getting prong extenders for the collar so that the prongs actually reach through their hair. If you search invisible fence in the search button there are a few topics where people have tried various things and had varying results. _________________ |
