and just because she's doing okay now doesn't really mean much. It's very good that she seems to be settling in well, but my pups were good their first few days to a week at home because it was a new environment and they didn't really know how to react. Then after that's when the training got a little harder and they tested their boundaries ever since.

- Welcome to the forum! Diesel and Xiah are very cute!
But the breeder let you bring Xiah how at 5 weeks?? Yeah, yeah I know :C I feel like a bad person. What do you do when you've already paid for the little baby though? I know her mom and dad were both checked on hips and eyes, I was rather irate when I had to come pick her up yesterday though. She's asleep against my leg right now. It's really shitty that the breeder did that, poor baby At least she has Diesel, he should help her a lot growing up. |

I keep him in a 15x15 foot dog run during the day (it's the best I have) and he comes in at night, I've been putting the two together as much as possible, I'm even thinking of letting them sleep in the same crate (I was going to ask everyone what they thought about that). Diesel was teaching her how to play and was very gentle. *SIGH* I just feel like biting my tongue. I posted just yesterday before she told me to come get her that she was staying until 8 weeks. On the bright side I think Lucy (our golden lab) was about 4-5 weeks when she came home from the shelter (she was a orphaned stray) so I have some experience.

I think I'll feel better once I move. Diesel will have the full run of the house then (I don't have a choice in the matter right now) and hopefully have a nice fenced in yard. I think next time I will just go through a rescue instead of getting a puppy. And if I DO get a puppy, I might ask for past adoption references (can I do that?).

it's not good idea to put them in the same crate together. We have a previous thread on here about that...dogs need their time apart too, just like people do

I didn't think it was a good idea, but I thought I'd ask Diesel's crate training lasted for about 2 days when he was a puppy. For some reason those 2 days stuck with him because I put him in a crate when he got fixed and he never made a peep. He is very quiet though. He's only barked 5 times maybe since I've had him and he doesn't howl or anything. I actually heard him talking for the first time about a week ago. It was great, I loved it.

Yeah I kennel mine together once in a while, but I know Embry likes his alone time. Since she's so young, you don't want her to get super attached to Diesel because if they ever needed to be separated you don't want her to get anxious and upset. Definitely make sure that they both have alone time with you.

I have a training session that I do with Diesel morning and night every day. I'm going to work with Xiah in the next week or two. She is with me about 22/7 right now , but I am working on putting her in the small dog pen outside so she gets used to being by herself.

I think it's about time for a good walk and for me to go put her in her playpen for a while. I don't want her to sleep TOO much and not sleep tonight
