He's almost 4 months now and he got bitten for the first time at the park today!

So here's what happened...

There is this HUGE park in a lovely place called Battersea that I take Luka to every Saturday for 2-3hours whilst waiting for my sister to finish her dance...

In this park, theres a cafe where everyone seems to bring their dogs, there were a good 30 dogs off lead there today - Luka enjoys it and it gives him a chance to socialise!

After about half an hour of play - I got up and called Luka to follow - Just as I did, some silly woman threw a tennis ball... Yes, a TENNIS ball, not just any ball - well, 4 or 5 dogs bolted for it and when Luka saw them running he followed - I don't think he has much interest in balls - he just enjoys running lol! Well, he has got quite speedy these past few weeks so he passed the running pack and got to the ball first, as soon as he got to it he picked it up and just slammed his breaks on. The dogs behind him couldn't stop and knocked him over and at that point, while he was on the floor, what looked like a big black lab came over and bit him on the ear, took the ball, and walked off... Luka got up and started walking over to me shaking his head and pawing at his ear so i knew he was hurt - there was blood running down his cheek and there was a small tear just under that ear flap they have. He was fine after and the owner of the 'lab' apologised.

When we got home I cleaned his wound with some warm salty water and sealed it with savlon - an antiseptic cream. I think it has already closed up and is looking a lot better than a few hours ago!

I hope he won't let this affect him, we didn't leave right away, i made the lady bring the lab back over and they got on fine after the incident - i guess ill find out next week when we go back.

Just thought I'd share.

Aw poor guy! I'm sure he'll be fine and that he won't be affected. Very Happy Kale was pack attacked at that age and he wasn't affected at all, still loves other dogs and has great social skills. You did the right thing having the lab and him have "good moments" after the incident!

Update: His injury has healed fine with no problems...

We were at the same park again last weekend and the same dog came running up to Luka - Luka took a few steps toward him and just stood up tall and they said hello face to face - this dog then decided to sniff Luka's butt which Luka allowed and then he started sniffing up towards Luka's ear again. At this point, Luka turned around, let out the deepest bark i have ever heard and this big black lab just backed up and sat down! I was so proud of my little guy, I was telling him well done quietly in his ear whilst the lab was getting a telling off from his owner, hehe. Im just happy that he didn't let this experience effect him negatively, instead, he's reacted to it great and I just love his personality even more!

glad his ear has healed up ok and he seems to be standing up for himself! So is this a fenced in park?.... i ask since you are noticing his "new" speed and with that comes the not "hearing" what your asking him to do, don't want him running after a ball but instead of getting the ball he just keeps going.

The park is fenced in yes, the area is huge and I don't rely on the perimeter fence because its miles away but it is there as a safety net!

its the park that i recorded the latest video of him that i posted up. according to wikipedia, its 83hectares! i guess the fence eliminates any risk of cars and if he was to decide he can't hear me calling him back, then I could count on someone holding onto him for me - everyone knows him in that park now and they always comment on how much he has grown week after week - its kind of embarrassing because i don't remember most of them :/
