Subject: Neo is getting snipped tommorow. :( Wed Jan 25, 2012 8:53 pm
I feel like I'm taking his man hood away. Ive been putting it off and putting it off, but I guess it needs to be done. I've only ever had one of my dogs neutered before. My heelers were all working dogs and were either kenneled or worked in same sex pairs so I never worried about it. Jackson was baggage(lol) that came with Brad already neutered . My boxer I had was 10 before I had him neutered because he got sick with testicular cancer I dont want that to happen to Neo. I just really dont know what to expect afterwards. It makes me nervous. Is he going to be mad at me? Ahhhhh

Awww, don't worry, he'll be just fine and definitely not mad you. He doesn't know that you did that to him. Well, technically YOU didn't, but you know what I mean When I got Mya spayed I was totally FREAKED out and then when we got Kody neutered I was once again FREAKED out. He did great though. Came home a little groggy, but was right back to his normal self the following day. Don't freak if it looks like his testicles are still there. I learned that it has a few days for the swelling to go down. I'll see if I can find the pic and post it. You just have to keep an eye on him until the stitches are removed so that he doesn't rip one. That's the hardest part! Try stopping a husky from running around, jumping on things, etc.

He won't hate you. I think we male owners go through the angst about whether to do it. We think about if that was us and shudder.
My first husky wasn't snipped until he was 9. Bodhi was snipped at a year and five months as a condition of us adopting him.
Both seemed fine after a day. Just watch out for Neo running through blackberry bushes for awhile.

After Embry was neutered he was home alone without a crate. I did confine him to my bedroom though. Just make sure you keep a cone on him, it really helps.
Good luck Neo, he'll be fine

I had Kale neutered at 5 months, he did great. They keep all their patients overnight so that they can get a temp and an incision check before release the next morning, It really helps them stay calm that first night as well. My Vet didn't use sutures, just surgical glue; he was young enough to get away with it

Thanks guys, I feel a little better, I'm going to drop him off first thing in the morning after I get banfield to fax his records over, and they want to keep him till 4. I'm supposed to go to therapy at 4, but I'm going to reschedule it so I dont have to drop him off at home then leave him. I'm def paying the extra 28$ for pain meds lol

Demon was neutered at 5 months as well, and the vet used a laser procedure...lucky guy was back to his normal self in a day...Dakota was spayed the same day...she recovered for over a week. Sometimes it pays to be male.
Neo will be fine.

I'm not sure if they use laser or not. I know banfield wanted to charge me almost 400$ to do it! I knew that seemed a little steep so when I chose to switch vets, I called this one and its 148$ plus the 28 for meds. Def more budget friendly. Plus its the same vet that treated my heeler pups when thoughts staph, and treated my boxer when he had cancer. So i trust he will be in good hands!

Awww!!! We are having both our pups done this Saturday, they will be 6 months old. I have never hesitated to get any of our dogs fixed. I think it prevents a lot of problems later on. My girl boxer is going to be 12 next month and I am so glad I had her spayed. I did it for preventative health. I think he will forgive you. Now mine, I don't know how we are going to handle two neutered pups at the same time. So a little prayers for our sanity. LOL.

Lol good luck Jo. My female Zoey was on so much rimydal when she came at 5 month old after being spayed and man she was nuts! Thank god Embry was so terrified of her cone that he didnt dare go by her but she eventually ate the come off. It did help to take her to.the dog park everyday after, but we kept her on leash.

Siku threw up a couple of times after her spay. We didn't give her any pain meds. She was calm for about 2 or 3 days and I had to keep her calm after that. lol. Glad everything went well!

Lol Len . I had to put the cone of shame on him finally after he started licking himself. I think ill sleep in the living room with him so I dont worry about him getting in and out of the bed. I'm trying not to laugh at him, bit its so hard. He is major out of it and keeps running into stuff with his cone.

I had Blaze snipped 2 weeks after I got him he had to wear the cone and a cover at night cause he would rub it with the cone. He still got and infection and had to take meds for 10 days..
