So our puppy Jezebel has some weird form of separation anxiety. She is fine when we leave, or aren't right near her, but any time she is crated, or out on the porch, she has a royal FIT. This has been going on for over two months now. We have tried just about everything. we have tried (and are still trying) crate training with treats, toys and kongs don't work, covering the crate doesn't work, we have had her in the bedroom and the living room, we have tried pheromone collars and calming supplements, we tried ignoring her until she is quiet (that puppy has stamina. she will go for HOURS WITHOUT STOPPING), we tried putting Dante in the crate with her both divided from each other and together thinking it would comfort her and we could wean her off having him with her, nothing seems to work. She whines, cries, screams and howls NON-STOP for HOURS on end and it's not to go potty. We take her out and she won't do anything, and she will wait until she is in her crate to potty as a way to get out. We tried making her space smaller with the divider, even to the point where she cant even turn around. She uses the crate to go bathroom every time she is in it without fail. The biggest problem is, we live in an apartment complex. The neighbors are NOT happy at all. We have tried talking to them, but they are still complaining, and now management is pretty much telling us to a) solve the problem b) get rid of the dog or c) get out. We REALLY don't want to get rid of her, but we AREN'T in a position to move right now. So what I'm wondering is, does anyone have any experience with a problem like this or ANY advise as to what to do with her. We are running out of time to get this fixed.

Two months is not a long time when it comes to changing a dogs behaviour. Keep it to one method and use this consequently, changing the method every few days leads to nothing.

If she is fine while your gone, just not when your there, then why crate her? I know crate training is hood, but you have to think about those around you. Also, if you have tried so many different things, it seems consistency might be an issue. The whole potty ti get out issue, this might sound mean, but of it was me, I wouldn't take her out when she did it.

We crate her at night because she is SUPER destructive if you don't watch her every second and it was also supposed to help us potty train her. We tried leaving her uncrated at night but she will do things like chew through a lamp cords, she has gotten into the laundry and destroyed clothes, shoes don't last long, she ate the laces off of two pairs of my husband's combat boots, she got my favorite cookbook off the kitchen table (which she CLIMBS ON) and totally shredded it and also shredded another book I had, she chewed a MASSIVE hole in our box spring, she pulled my droid off the nightstand and pretty much ate it, and she ate a basketball sized spot of our carpet, pad and all. We tried leaving her in her mess.....but it seems she isn't the least bit fazed by laying in it and the daily baths are getting old. We have been doing the treating when she goes in the crate thing since we got her, the other means are more a way of trying to quiet her down. She will go in the crate when it is open to play, and even to nap, but as SOON as the door is shut, she has a FIT which leads me to possibly mistakenly believe that the problem isn't the crate itself. I kinda feel like crating is our only option as far as the destructiveness goes. No matter how much we tire her out, if our back is turned, SOMETHING is getting wrecked. What I can't figure out, is how to get her to realize that she is ok in the crate and stop all the noise.

Not for nothing, but how much exercise is she getting? Huskies are destructive when bored, not just because. She's young and is going to need at LEAST an hour of solid exercise a day, more than likely two or three. This can include mental and physical exhaustion, but she must be exhausted. A tired husky is a happy husky. She sounds bored to me.

If she can't take the crate, there are a few things you can do. Try puppy proofing a bathroom or another room where she can't destroy anything and try to leave him uncrated.

Have you tried putting her in bed with you? Honestly, we had a similar issue with Kody. He's always been fine with being crated during the day, but at night he would cry, cry, cry, cry, and cry some more. LOUD for that matter! We tried leaving him loose in our bedroom, but he would go potty sometimes. Finally, when we started letting him sleep in bed with us all of that came to an end. At first when I would hear him jump off the bed I would sit up and put him back on. If I thought he had to go potty (I'm pretty good at reading them) I would take him out and bring him right back into bed.

Definitely don't give her free roam of the house. Just your bedroom and make that EVERYTHING is picked up. I mean everything. They'll find something out of nothing

Oh yes, yes, the exercise! Forgot about that one. You need the tire her out good!

I haven't had a puppy to work with yet, but I third the exercise. With that Cali became a true angel all time. She never destroyed anything around the house.

Something to try is when/if you put her in a room use a baby gate instead of closing the door. Also leave the TV on it's been known help.

No sure if you've tried this, but how about attaching an expen around the entrance of the crate, so that way she can be confined and have time to further get used to the crate. Many have had great success combining the two in this way, some have even gone as far as building a floor out of plywood and linoleum to protect the house's flooring.

We were told told that we have until the end of the month to find her a new home. I'm pretty much devastated. The only good thing is we have a REALLY good home lined up for her with a fellow husky owner we met at Petsmart's training class. She has her own home, a huge yard, and another husky for Jezzy to play with. At least I know she wont be going to someone that will decide she's too much for them and rehome her, or mistreat her. Pet friendly my ass, this is the last time we will ever stay in an apartment complex, we will certainly be leaving as soon as our lease is up and we can save for a deposit on another place. And no more dogs until we have our OWN place and nothing like this can happen again
