Obviously not everyone is going to agree on a topic; here we prefer to talk out our differences in a respectful manner to ensure mutual understanding and respect. 2. Read the Stickies and Announcements. Each sub-forum may have specific rules which trump the Forum Rules in cases where there may be conflicting information. Read the rules of each board before you post so that you are clear on the expectations of the staff. 3. Respect ALL Staff and Admins. These people volunteer of their time and MUST be respected as well as their word adhered to. They are responsible for maintaining a free, open, clear and organized forum. Anyone found to be openly undermining any official ruling by a staff member will be warned. 4. Signatures: One picture only and no links. Images: To keep the forum looking neat and tidy, we ask that members insert just one picture only in their signatures. Should you need assistance creating an appropriate signature, please PM an Admin and we would be happy to help! This is to ensure that signatures remain a welcome addition to our forum instead of a cumbersome distraction. Links: Hyperlinks in signatures--unless to a personal blog or photo stream of your dogs (like Flckr or Piscasa, for example)--are strictly prohibited. | My pup seems to be really protective of my 4 year old. He gets rather snarly when people approach us if she is holding the leash.
I'm really unsure as to weather I want to train this out of him or not... just wanting opinions please |

| This is just my opinion and by no means am I a pro at this kind of stuff, but as long as he isn't nipping, I wouldn't worry about it too much. I think it's kind of sweet that he loves your little girl so much. |

| my husky Cali is very very very vocal when kids are involved, buts all....she hasn't done anything I ever worried about. But I don't know your dog or how Cali will act in more situations. So far she is just vocal. Good luck |

| In my opinion I'd address this - it's not normal behavior for a husky to "guard" children. You never know when one of her little 4 year olds friends might get the receiving end of your dog "protecting" your child. |

| That is kind of strange behavior. I have had two huskies and two kids and neither dog has shown protective behavior over them or any of us, for that matter. I would guess (again, no expert) that he is perhaps a little insecure with the situation and is showing fear.
Since you have a child, that dog will most likely be around lots of children in his lifetime. I would take Riley's suggestion that you address the issue so he will not think that this is appropriate behavior around busy, loud and sometimes scary children. |

| I actually just recently helped with a husky that did this exact thing, but with a 7 year old. For him, it wasn't guarding, it was fear. He was uncomfortable with the situation and didn't know how to behave. I'm afraid it was only a matter of time before he bit someone. |

| I have noticed Max is getting a lot better now that he thinks he owns the neighbourhood hehe so maybe it was "just" fear. |
