I was poking around on Netflix last night and stumbled upon a 6 part Discovery Channel documentary. I've watched part of it, and it's pretty cool. A little dramatized, but that's kind of normal these days. It's pretty interesting to watch, and it definitely makes me want to move to Alaska and race. Seriously, I want to move to Alaska...

It's at least available on Netflix streaming (how I'm watching it), and probably available on DVD as well. Called "Iditarod: Toughest Race on Earth", and follows the 2008 race.

I've watched parts of it and really enjoyed it. Dogs liked watching the other dogs on tv too!

Meredith, we can be neighbors in Alaska, I want to move there once I finish grad school!

There is a documentary called Pretty Sled Dogs that is about an all siberian iditarod team that I also liked.

We watched the whole thing over a few days, it was very interesting! Isis would go up to the tv and look whenever she heard barking. Although, her very favorite show is Meerkat Manor lol!

Sounds like a plan! I got 3 days off in the middle of a deployment in Anchorage 2 years ago. I fell in love. It's an amazing place, and contrary to popular belief Chicago has a worse winter than Anchorage because of the ocean currents.

Seriously, if the Navy tells me no on this med school thing, I will go to the Air Force and see if I can get picked up for their program. Then I can try to scam orders to Elmendorf AFB (just outside Anchorage).

I'll have to check out Pretty Sled Dogs as well, thanks for the suggestion!

I haven't quite watched the whole thing yet but I love that series! I wish they would do another one...and maybe one for sprint racing--that would be cool!
