| Hey, gang! I have a question. My seven year-old female is weighing in at 52 pounds and I have noticed a slight "roundness" around her stomach. She eats approximately 2 cups twice a day of EVO Chicken and Turkey Dry Food. By how much should I decrease her meals? I tried giving her veggies with 1/2 cup of kibble but she didn't even touch the veggies. Suggestions, please! |

| The feed amounts are always over stated unless you are working the dog. I feed Adobo 2 cups per DAY over 3 feeding. She more often then not eats maybe twice a day for a total of 1.5 cups. Biko well he's chow hound and would LOVE 2 cups twice a day. |

| She's not liking the veggies, huh? Have you considered switching her to reduced calorie kibble? That really worked for Mya! Wellness Core Reduced Calorie. So you feed her 2 cups twice a day or one and one? Ava is a little husky guys so even though you would think that 52lbs isn't really overweight I do see the "roundness" that Denise is talking about..lol. |

| Nice one, Melissa! I have noticed a decrease in her running now that she has gained more weight. She eats about 2 cups twice a day. I am going to follow the EVO calculator that snrose showed me and see how that goes. They each had two chicken thighs this morning with some green beans (that were conveniently left inside their bowls) and I will give them kibble in the evening. She used to weigh 30 pounds when I got her and she looked so skinny... |

| My 52 lb female eats 1.25 cups a day over 3 feedings. It depends on Ava's metabolism too. If you're having a hard time feeling her ribs, and her waist and tummy tuck isn't as defined as it used to be, then she may need to lose a few pounds.
As Len says, the feeding guidelines are usually stated for working dogs.
Here's another comparison to give you an idea of how different metabolism can be between dogs....my 6.5 year old male, at 77 lbs get 1.5 cups a day over 3 feedings, and about 25% of what he eats is a low calorie, low fat kibble.
If Ava is currently eating 2 cups of Evo a day, and you'd like her to lose a couple of pounds, try decreasing her food to 1.5 - 1.75 cups a day and see if she's able to lose a few pounds.
You can try adding low calorie fillers to her food also to help her - no salt canned green beans or chopped carrots can be added to create volume but very little calories while adding fiber to her diet. (I add about 1/8 c of green beans to Storm's food sometimes to create more volume).
Melissa gave you a nice low calorie kibble option, and there's also Orijen Senior which is lower in fat and calories comparable to Wellness Core that Melissa mentioned. (Storm is on Orijen Senior since he's 6.5 years old and I am a big fan of Orijen but it does cost a little more than Wellness Core - Just my preference).

| I'm going to decrease the amount of food and add some veggies (assuming that she will eat them). I really don't want to have two different kinds of food in the house seeing as one is a puppy and Ava is a senior. Thanks for the ideas... |

| 2 cups twice a day for such a calorie dense food is way too much. Each dog is different but back when I used to feed Evo (turkey/chicken formula) to my sibe at 53 lbs with moderate exercise he ate 1.75 cups per day mixed with 1/3 can of wet food and that maintained his weight perfectly.
A tip for making veggies more attractive that I discovered by accident with my own dogs: boil the veggies in chicken broth, strain out the broth, then feed the veggies. Faith is very picky about veggies unless they are cooked in chicken broth and then suddenly she can't resist them. Worth a try...as I said, I found this out by accident as I had cooked our vegetables in chicken broth and accidentally dropped some on the floor. She gobbled them up and was begging for more, and they were the same veggies she'd ALWAYS turned her nose up at before. _________________ |

| Great idea! Ava will eat the green peas and carrots when I mix it with rice but she didn't care for them otherwise. Boiling them in chicken broth would be good. Thanks... |

| With the feeding guides on the bags, they usually are way too much food. But other than that, you have to feed for her ideal weight, not what she actually weighs. Figure out what she should weigh and then feed her according to that and she should lose her roundness EVO also makes a weight management formula, and Wellness Core Reduced Fat is good too. Snickers did well on Wellness Core when he needed to lose about 10 pounds. |

| Wellness Core Reduced Fat i have preached this to a few on here and we have all had the same result, it works! and our sibs have lost weight with out having to deduce the food intake. also try to mix up the veggies you are giving, my girl will eat anything but my picky boy enjoys, red peppers, cucumbers and carrots. _________________ |

| Evo Weight Management works just as well too. I used it for a while when my sibe needed to drop a few pounds. It allowed me to feed his normal amount so he didn't feel hungry all the time but he still lost the weight when extra exercise wasn't an option since it was summertime in FL when we were trying to drop the weight. _________________ |
