| Westminster is coming up so there's a lot of dog news right now.
I saw this one which was interesting. We've discussed designer breeds and Pomskys in particular on here. Well here's an interview with the guy who coined Labradoodles and his thoughts on the designer breed craze.

| Sure thing.
I didn't realize that Labradoodles were from the 80s.

| My fiances family owns a sheepadoodle. He is a great dog. I am not a person that frowns upon "designer breeds" for the most part. I mean i would never agree with a pomsky. And trust me family memebers have asked me about that, im so happy that i got koda neutered so early so i can shut down that thought quickly. But if the breeder still takes steps for health checks, and pedigrees and etc, i feel its fine. I know people will disagree with me here but im ok with that. |

| It's like any breed that gets popular quickly, it will attract unscrupulous people. I hate to admit it but I kind of have a soft spot for the wiggly, goofy, doodles. They are just always so freakin' happy about everything and everyone.
Eric, what's a sheepadoodle? |

| Some mixes of breeds, if done properly, can turn out ok. I still don't like the fact that they even call them "designer breeds". It makes them sound fancy, like Prada or Gucci. I'd much rather call them mix breeds because that is what they are.
For the most part I don't like it but I understand why some people do it. Then again I also see why this turns out a lot of BYB. I saw a website a couple months ago of a "Huskita" breeder. They "claimed" that they had created a dog that had the looks of a husky but the obedience of an akita. What they really did, if you read the whole website for their story, is adopt an akita who needed a home, and then adopt a siberian husky from a boy who couldn't take care of it and decided "Hey, let's have them make puppies! I like this about my akita, I like this about my husky, surely a mix would be perfect"
Like by some miracle the dog will inherit only the good behavioral traits and lose the bad in the process. Grrr.

| I agree with you nicole. The people that do what you said about the huskita, are exactly the people that gave mix breed breeders a bad name. My sister-in-law and my cousin want to breed their min pin, and pit bull, caust it will be "cute". I dont think it will happen cause nethir of them want to raise all the puppies, but thats the kind of stuff that causes problems. But when those mix breed, breeders take the time to health test and all the other good stuff, and they are actually using good healthy, and good temperment dogs to breed, then i feel that its ok. |

Yikes! I hope the female is the pit! If not that would be a serious health risk to the min pin. |
