So I'm wondering if anyone else experienced this "phase" with their huskies. Beau is going on eleven months and within the past few he has become increasingly independent. He doesn't like me loving on him anymore and anytime I pet him he pulls away. Although he gets excited for all of two seconds when I come home. He has become disinterested in playing with me and I don't understand why. I can assure you I am great to my dog, he just simply doesn't seem to like me. He's a stubborn little turd. He only seeks my attention when he wants treats. I am constantly interacting with him- I don't even have a job right now so I'm always with him at home. I know huskies are independent to begin with, but also heard they become more "attached" as they get older. I know it seems silly but it makes me sad Sad My husband said his previous huskies weren't like that. Maybe they were the odd ones Wink Is there another way I can bond with my dog? Is this something they outgrow or is this "welcome to being a husky owner"? What are ways that you all bond with your huskies?

Mine is 7 years old and he goes through spells of this even now. He loves me and cries when I leave him, but it's sometimes like he doesn't want to show it. If I kiss him on his snout he actually wipes it off with his paw! Laughing I think he's just being bratty. Of course, I'm no expert, but I think your baby is just being stubborn or maybe trying to punish you for something he wishes he was getting. That's kinda how Keimo is. I have bonded with him over the years through training and playtime. Honestly, that seems to be the best way. The best bonding experience that Keimo and I ever had was going to obedience classes together.

Welcome to being a husky owner! lol. Had to! Siku became way more independent at about 9 months. Sadly the "have to stay close to you cause I'm just a little scared puppy" phase does go away (sometimes sooner!). Now Siku does her own thing most of the time, but will love on us now and then and pester me to play with her by putter her toys on me. Laughing

My best advice for bonding is to do a lot of training with positive reenforcement. Gives you a lot of one on one time and makes the dog think you're pretty cool to hang out with.

My other one, Elara, she doesn't act like a sibe at all! lol. She's little miss velcro dog and follows me around everywhere!

Mine goes through spells like that also but she is probably still adjusting to her new home. Cali gets vocal if I start petting her all the time, The only time she doesn't is when we are on a walk / away from the house. But then there are times she is like a velco dog.
My bonding thing I do is long walks, an hour each time, usually 3 a day. We range around 4-6 miles a day.

good luck though.

Huskies are definalty an aloof breed. Your boy sounds like my late Dakota. He was never a fan of physical affection from anyone. Does Beau follow you around the house? Despite not likeing to be touched, my Dakota was my shadow. I had a very strong bond with him. Just the act of walking them everyday can create a bond between the two of you.
