We are track and field fans, and we named Isi after a famous Russian female athlete, Yelena Isinbayeva, who goes by "Isi" in the press.
The breed has Eastern origins and she's quite the runner, so we thought it was fitting Also, she came to us with the Mali (as in Malibu, ugh..) so the name wasn't too much of a change.

Lilly my family pet growing up who was a Shepherd/ Chow was named by my mom. Broken down as Lil' Lee. My mom's nickname growing up was Lee. Also, all our family members and pets were girls and had L names. Lisa, Lauren, Laina, Lynzi, Lilly, Louise (hedgehog), and Lola (fish). :]
Storm was given his name by the shelter we got him from. He didn't know it so we wanted to change it. Couldn't come up with anything for weeks and all he responded to was kissy sounds. He didn't look like a Storm to me but I started calling him it and now I feel it suits him. I also like to call him Norm. :p
Atka means "guardian spirit" in Inuit. It was between Suka which means fast or Atka and when I was bringing him home I was saying both and to me he looked more like an Atka.

My Blaze doesn't stutter, he whines a lot though. He never howls and only occasionally barks. Mostly whines and squeaks.
I've had fun reading the thread as well, thanks everyone for participating.

One of the leads at MUSHR wanted the Milwaukee Brewers to win the 2011 World Series, hence the name Brewer. When we picked him up from the foster parents, he was responding so well that we decided to be easy on him and keep it. I guess it didn't hurt that I brew beer as well...

Alright, Juno and Bleeker, after the movie. It's kinda weird because they were lovers in the movie, and siblings in the pups. We were trying to think of a Russian name, then expanded to Alaskan, the wife said "Juneau", I said "I like it!" After trying to think of a name for the boy, wife jokingly said "Bleeker". We both loved it, and they stuck.
Juno has black hair (like in the movie) and Bleeker has red (like in the movie). Also, Juno is very independant and off on her own a lot, and Bleeker is kind of a sweet, but not the birghtest pup.
Juno - as a girl's name is of Latin origin, and the meaning of Juno is "queen of heaven"
The meaning of the name Bleeker - Dutch: occupational name for a bleacher of textiles, Middle Dutch ble(e)kere.

Luna is the Latin word for moon, and was the name of Roman goddess of the moon, who is usually identified with the Greek goddess Selene. I named her Luna because she is a "Lunatic" ! haha. Also because she is all white and "bright" like the moon. Corny...I know.. I also like Luna because it sounds very girly and fits her cute girly white eyelashes

Layla was named after the Eric Clapton song "Layla"
previous pets had been named by our daughter. wife and I always hated the names after the fact. so when we got layla we decided it was our decision this time. on the drive home the song came on the radio , and that was it

Drake derives it's name from the word for dragon (but if you look it up in the dictionary it also means a male duck). Pretty funny our cowardly dog is named after a dragon...maybe he'll grow into it.

Fenrir is the son of Loki from Norse mythology. As a puppy, he was the most normal of Loki's kids and really sweet, so the Gods kept him as a pet. As he grew, he got huge, and they became terrified of him, so they tried to bind him up before he could turn aggressive.
Edit: I also named him that because I wanted him to have a mythos name like his brother, Apollo, but the best choices were Hathor, Zeus, Ares, Osiris, and Fenrir. Personally, I liked Hathor and Zeus (and obviously Fenrir), but after a very long tirade from my friend about naming an arctic dog after a Mediterranean or Desert God, I went with the Northern mythos.

I did not name Thor he was already named by a 17 yr old no clue why. He really isn't a god of thunder. Maybe a princess of flower petals...lol
Nero Thaddeus is my GSD name. I first named him Thaddeus a greek name that means a heart, or courageous heart. But no one could remember it or they kept calling him Tad which I did not like. Soooo.... I thought about it for a few days and decided on Nero, the Roman Emperor. I kept Thaddeus as a middle name for him because I really like it.

Isis came with her name, but it was spelled Icez by her previous owner. Dante's rescue name was Saint, and we figured that didn't really fit a Husky. Hubby came up with Dante; don't know if there was any reasoning behind it or if it just sounded good.

I named Kirk after Cptn. Kirk from Star Trek. My friends ex-wife told me to name him Jim...and being the nerd I am, Kirk was the first thing that popped into my head.
