| Neptune-Roman God of the Sea (a.k.a Poseidon), but he was actually named after the gorgeous blue planet! We are uber nerds here in this house, stargazers, and syfy aficionados. My 5 yo boy said, "oh his eyes look like the planet Neptune! Let's call him that!" And, since we live by the sea, it worked awesome! Neptune is our black & white male Sibe. Calypso- a Greek demi-goddess who was a sea nymph, and, of course, the name of the Goddess Davy Jones falls in love with in Pirates of the Caribbean. Besides being stargazers, we are beach lovers, and HUGE pirates fans. We named her about 30 seconds after being in the car with her, as we all mutually agreed this name was epic! We sometimes just call her Cali..our pretty all white female Sibe. Her AKC registered name is "Seaside Snow Cali Calypso". |

| All of my dogs came with a name but I only changed a few of them... Ellie- When my brother gave her to me, my mom started to call her 'Nellie' but I didn't like it so I changed it to 'Ellie' cause it sounded similar. I kind of wish I had picked something different but...oh well. Dixie- I had wanted to name my previous Beagle 'Dixie' but ended up naming her Heidi instead. So, when we adopted Dixie (previously named Ruby by the shelter), I knew that was the perfect name. Maggie- It took me a long time to decide on Maggie's name. I actually was going to name her Sage but Maggie popped into my mind and it stuck. Jazz- Jazz is literally my dream dog. Ever since I had gotten into sled dogs and learned about the Eurohounds, I wanted a black and white, speckled one named Jazz. So when I saw Jazz (who's name was Arwin) at the shelter, I knew she was mine. |

| Well first of all I love eating Beth's cooking and she is Filipino so what could be better then to name our kidz after Filipino foods.
Adobo- I think would be best described as a stew
Biko- A sticky rice dessert, so simple but so awesome
Did have a failed attempt at a rescue that we had named Tinola, which is soup.
While were on the topic of food had a cat back in the early 80's named Breakfast. The joke on that was my job paid so little I told people even if I ran out of money I could still eat breakfast.
Done with the food names had 2 dogs back in the 70's named Arrow and Oblio, from the Harry Nilson movie (TV) called "The Point." ( http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0067595/ ) Still a classic in my heart, a boy and his dog what more does a movie need. |

I always wanted to ask if Adobo was named after that! But I didn't want to offend you or seem ridiculous! ...and I didn't recognize Biko, but I love that sticky rice dessert! I had to call my mom and she said that's Tagalog! No wonder I didn't recognize it! My family is Ilocano I think hubby would die if I wanted to change Ginger and Storm's names to something like Lumpia (Filipino Eggroll) and Pancit (noodles)! _________________ |

| For the xmas party Beth had at work she made Spring Rolls/Lumpia, and ooooooh don't get me started on the Pancit. To think 6 years ago I thought all rice was long grain white. |

| ....I've enjoyed reading. If it was up to me, Frankie would have had a much cooler name. But the minute he showed up at my sister's door, she named him Frankie after Ole Blue Eyes...Frank Sinatra. It kind of just stuck and seems to fit him well now. |

| Ghost - Old English is gást, Common Germanic gaistaz
I've wanted a Husky for years, and after I read a Game of Thrones I decided I was going to get a male and name it Ghost. Aaron said absolutely no male dogs (he has stupid reasons, I will win on that one eventually), but when I got her I knew I wasn't going to waiver on the name Ghost. _________________ Shadow's Blog Canine Hydrocephalus Support on Facebook "Being the parent of a special-needs pet means living your life constantly poised on the edge of a double-edged sword. | I didn't originally name my girls...One is Ava and I have convinced myself that she was named Ava after Ava Gardner...Such a classic beauty. Bella, on the other hand...is another story. The teenager that I got her from changed her name of Bella (given by the breeder) to Karma (after her dog that died). I didn't like Karma and when I was calling her Bella, she responded much better than to Karma. Of course, Bella is Spanish for Beautiful, which she is! |

| Not sure exactly what Luka means. Every name website I look at gives me a different origin and meaning. She is named after a song called Luka. We also liked the name because there is a part in Return of the Jedi (star wars) where it sounds like the ewoks are chanting Luka Luka Luka... We chant that to her and she gets all happy.
Kitty came with her name, and we kept it because she is silly like a kitty. Meaning of kitty is kind of self explanatory.
My first husky was named Yakul after a red elk in the movie Princess Mononoke. Not sure of the meaning. |

| When we were looking at names for Nikko Justin and I couldn't agree on names. I wanted to name him Fenris after the great wolf in Norse mythology that swallows the moon.
But we looked at names online and we both agreed on Nikko.
Nikko is a variant of Nick which refers to the greek goddess of victory Nike, but it also means daylight in a japanese surname. |

| Moose's full name is Moosonee after a town in Northern Ontario. All three of our children have been on canoe trips that have ended up in Moosonee. There isn't much information about the origin of the name but it started out as a fur trading post to compete with the Hudson Bay Company. The breeder names all her litters by theme and our litter was born before Thanksgiving so they had names like Turkey, Stuffing, and Moose was Cornbread. Oddly enough our kids liked the name Cornbread which was kind of cute for a puppy, but I didn't want to be calling "Cornbread" to a majestic looking Siberian Husky when he was an adult. It was tough getting 5 people to agree on a name but we finally all agreed on Moose. Moose can act like a charging Moose so it is pretty appropriate sometimes! |

| We are track and field fans, and we named Isi after a famous Russian female athlete, Yelena Isinbayeva, who goes by "Isi" in the press. The breed has Eastern origins and she's quite the runner, so we thought it was fitting Also, she came to us with the Mali (as in Malibu, ugh..) so the name wasn't too much of a change. |

| Lilly my family pet growing up who was a Shepherd/ Chow was named by my mom. Broken down as Lil' Lee. My mom's nickname growing up was Lee. Also, all our family members and pets were girls and had L names. Lisa, Lauren, Laina, Lynzi, Lilly, Louise (hedgehog), and Lola (fish). :]
Storm was given his name by the shelter we got him from. He didn't know it so we wanted to change it. Couldn't come up with anything for weeks and all he responded to was kissy sounds. He didn't look like a Storm to me but I started calling him it and now I feel it suits him. I also like to call him Norm. :p
Atka means "guardian spirit" in Inuit. It was between Suka which means fast or Atka and when I was bringing him home I was saying both and to me he looked more like an Atka. |

My Blaze doesn't stutter, he whines a lot though. He never howls and only occasionally barks. Mostly whines and squeaks. I've had fun reading the thread as well, thanks everyone for participating. |

| One of the leads at MUSHR wanted the Milwaukee Brewers to win the 2011 World Series, hence the name Brewer. When we picked him up from the foster parents, he was responding so well that we decided to be easy on him and keep it. I guess it didn't hurt that I brew beer as well... |

| Alright, Juno and Bleeker, after the movie. It's kinda weird because they were lovers in the movie, and siblings in the pups. We were trying to think of a Russian name, then expanded to Alaskan, the wife said "Juneau", I said "I like it!" After trying to think of a name for the boy, wife jokingly said "Bleeker". We both loved it, and they stuck.
Juno has black hair (like in the movie) and Bleeker has red (like in the movie). Also, Juno is very independant and off on her own a lot, and Bleeker is kind of a sweet, but not the birghtest pup.
Juno - as a girl's name is of Latin origin, and the meaning of Juno is "queen of heaven"
The meaning of the name Bleeker - Dutch: occupational name for a bleacher of textiles, Middle Dutch ble(e)kere. |

| Luna is the Latin word for moon, and was the name of Roman goddess of the moon, who is usually identified with the Greek goddess Selene. I named her Luna because she is a "Lunatic" ! haha. Also because she is all white and "bright" like the moon. Corny...I know.. I also like Luna because it sounds very girly and fits her cute girly white eyelashes |
