| My Yorkie & Dalmatian get into fights all the time and the Yorkie gets hurt like this on his head all the time! First time I freaked out and took him to the vet (which was a total waste)! Just trim the hair around the wound, clean it up with some peroxide, throw some neosporin (I use the one with pain relief) on it and keep it clean. Don't wrap it, because it needs to breath. If you do take her to the vet, they are going to do the same thing and send you home with some anti-biotics to prevent infection and as long as you keep it clean, you don't need them.

My friends Malamute used to be really aggressive, she's gotten a lot better so she came over last night to play. They did really good for like 4 hours playing until Zoey wouldn't just leave her alone that she flipped and wouldn't stop attacking her. We had to jump on the Mal and pin her to get her off of Zoey. It was pretty crazy.. |

I'm so nervous to trim her fur, will it grow back since she's a Husky?? |

| Ouch :[ Her hair will grow back if you trim it, but she might have a little bald scar from the wound for a while. |

| Poor Zoey! I would trim the hair and use the triple antibiotic ointment. Luckily it's on her head and she can't lick it off.
The hair will grow back fine, it just takes a while. Koda's is getting there and they shaved him ALL the way down! _________________ www.itsahuskything.com It's a husky thing... you wouldn't understand. |

| When I had an infection after my surgery, the doctor told me to use a antibiotic cream instead of an ointment, because ointments aren't water soluble and trap bacteria underneath. However, that was the first and only time I heard that to I don't know if it's true or not, plus, her wound isn't infected so I don't tink you need to worry about it. |

| The hair will grow back. It heals up very nicely! My Yorkie has had several of these exact wounds and he took it like a champ, so no worries! The hair will grow and no it will not scar at all! There will be a scab for a bit, but like our wounds they will heal, plus the fur will cover it anyway. Just make sure you keep it clean and keep putting the neosporin on it! *You don't have to shave it, just take scissors and trim the hair enough to keep it from getting in the wound* |

i thought that peroxide was bad on dog wounds cause it killed the good cells trying to regrow after a cut..... _________________ |

| That's what I always thought too, about the peroxide. Plus, it's a drying agent, and wounds need moisture to heal. |

| You will want to shave the area. We had to shave Kitty's leg when she had a puncture wound from a dog attack. The hair will grow back. We just had to clean the wound out for the first few days with a surgical scrub. If you take her to the vet they may want to put her on antibiotics too just to prevent infection or an abcess.
Poor girl! Hope she heals up quickly. |

| Awww poor Zoey!!! When Mya got that deep gash after the bike incident while camping I only put peroxide on it right after it happened to clean it out. It does dry out the wound. I also put triple pain relief antibiotics for like a week or so. It was pretty deep also and it's healed up nicely. The area is a very light pink now with no hair. I hope the hair will eventually grow back! Luckily it's on her head so she can't mess with it! Hugs to you and Zoey! |

| Personally if it were my dogs I'd clean it with hydrogen peroxide, shave the area (makes healing and cleaning so much easier) and super glue it about halfway back together, just enough so it can start to repair itself but not close any infection completely.. Honestly, I use superglue a lot in this house with the dogs. It works. after the glue is dry I usually stuff it full of antibiotic ointment. Most are usually on the way to being healed within just a few days. _________________ Force Free Training ThreadCheyenne, Mishka, Mickey, Rodeo, & Odin Are you a Husky owner in South Florida?! | arooroomom, that's a really good idea! I had my chin super-glued shut when I had a little run in with a bowling ball, I never thought of that for dogs before though |

| Peroxide kills good cells along with the bad, I'd stay away from it, makes the healing process longer. Shave and tripe antibiotic ointment 2-3 times a day. Granulation tissue is starting to appear which is a good sign. As long as you keep it clean and use some topical antibiotics, It should heal up great. |

| Just saw this...hope Zoey gets better soon! Not sure where I stand on peroxide vs. antibiotic ointment, but I am leaning towards the ointment for the same reasons stated in previous posts. |

I agree with the others, trim the hair to keep the wounds clean and use triple antibiotic, not peroxide as brooke said. and try the super glue. That stuff works wonders! You can find it at a hardware store or at a grocery store. It's better than paying 100s of dollars at a vet's office for what you can find and do at home and it doesn't take much at all. I've done it before on a rottie and my first husky and myself soooo many times! |
