| Subject: Izabella's Dragon Toy... Mon Dec 26, 2011 10:00 pm | |
| Well, I bought Bella one of those cute little dragon toys that everyone was getting from their secret Santa.... She didn't do so well with it. Within 5 minutes it was in pieces. :-( She seems to love the squeakers, but I have no idea what to buy her that she won't shred! Any ideas? Should I just stick to ropes and kongs even though she likes the squeekys? Help!
This is 2 toys in 2 days... now she's trying to steal Keimo's toys and he's really mad. He attacked her a little bit ago after she reached for his toy. Generally, he seems to try to avoid her as much as possible. What do I do? I've had her a week tomorrow and they don't seem to be getting any better. :-( |

Do you mean full blown attack or did he just snap and/or make a lot of noise? Drogo and Navi went through the same thing after I brought her home. If Navi was chewing on something and Drogo tried to take it, she would growl and sometimes snap at him. This is normal, so I wouldn't be too concerned if that's all they're doing. They have to sort out the hierarchy between them. What changed things for me was when Navi actually attacked Drogo over a bone he was chewing on. She would also resource guard me like crazy; if I was sitting in a chair, she would sit beneath me and lash out at Drogo anytime he would walk by. I decided to remove all bones until they became a bit more comfortable with one another. It only took 1-2 days for her to warm up to Drogo. I reintroduced the bones and they've been fine ever since. I often catch them chewing on the same one! Removing her from beneath my chair and issuing a correction when she'd snap at Drogo also stopped her guarding relatively quickly, I'd say within a day. Unless Keimo and Izabella are showing true aggression towards one another, I think they'll be fine. Some of the members here will tell you it took their dogs months to actually become "friends." I believe that a very large percentage of dogs have the ability to sort things out amongst themselves without bloodshed and without human intervention. At the first growl, many owners want to step in and intervene when dogs are just doing what comes natural to them. I see this happen at dog parks ALL the time. There are times, however, when I think it's appropriate to step in and establish some boundaries. Just depends on the situation. If they are getting really aggressive over toys and bones, you can try removing them and reintroducing later once things have settled down some. |

| Really he's only trying to make her back off... no blood was shed, so I think they'll be ok. She's been with him for over a week now and mostly he just ignores her. Hopefully, he'll come around. She tries to kiss him. lol |
