| Hi My name is Bob - I am a husky and am five years old - can some one please help my mom......She asks the following " I have a dilema - Bob manages to wriggle out of his harness (whenever he sees another dog) whilst we are walking in the park I have checked that it is tight enough - but he is an escape artist of note!! We now do our walks with a choker chain as well as a harness (the choker chain is in event he sees another dog). What other options are there for peaceful walks in the park ???

| I prefer a Martingale collar (limited slip) over a check chain personally. It only tightens so far so you don't have the "choking" but it tightens enough that they can't slip it. I know there are some harnesses that are easier to slip than others but I've yet to hear of one that cannot be slipped...especially once the dog figures out how to do it. I think harnesses with multiple clips on the underside tend to be harder to slip.
I think having a backup like you've done with the check chain is a good failsafe to the harness. When I go biking with mine I always have an extra lead attached to his martingale collar just as an extra safety precaution. _________________ |

| what harness do you have? Jack is in the ruffwear palisade pack with detachable harness and he has not managed to back out of it yet. he could back out of the X-back
also on the collar i like the pinch collar over the choker _________________ |

also on the collar i like the pinch collar over the choker I only ever have Kale in a harness when we run. I use a pinch collar and a martingale collar. I'll use either one depending on his mood, if he's rambunctious then I'll use the pinch, if he's calmer then the martingale. I never use a choker, it cuts the hair and damages the trachea. |

| I just got a new harness and tried it out yesterday for the first time and loved it, Libby just sat there at first not wanting to move but once the word walk is mentioned she didnt seem to mind. I thought she would have pulled more but it was surprisingly much better than a collar alone. We went for a walk through the woods and came about a pack of turkeys up in the trees, you should have seen the look on her face when they started to fly away. She had no idea what to do. I just wish i had a video camera. Have any of you taken your husky with while snow shoeing? I was thinking of trying that this year. |

we went last yr a few times, super fun! you need some booties and mushers wax for the paws. if you look under great out doors last winter you will see some posts. _________________ |

| I use an "Alaskan" style limited slip collar. Put it on over the dog's head, then adjust it smaller with the slider. When tensioned, the leash attachment ring slides down on the dog's neck like a choke collar.
I use a recreation style harness with cinch webbing under the belly to prevent the escaping issue you describe. Since I went to this type harness, he hasn't been able to get out of it. |

| Pinch collar here as well. Kody almost slipped out of his harness once and that was that. Only time that they use their harness is when biking, but like Val I use a second leash attached their pinch JUST IN CASE! |

| Adobo & Biko use prong collars, Biko would be dead in 2 minutes if I insisted on a choker. Use to use harness also but trying t o reserve the use of it strictly for the sled and scooter usage. |

Yes, we've taken Ginger several times last year. Depending on if snow balls up in their paws, or if they have sensitive paws, you may or may not need booties. Ginger did not like booties at all, and Musher's Secret is all we used to keep snow from balling up, and to keep her paw pads protected. We usually carry it on the trail with us just in case we need to re-apply but once usually does the trick for Ginger. Musher's Secret is also good if you're just walking out and salt has been dropped to de-ice. It protects their paw pads from the salt during the winter. _________________ |

| Frosti can get out of her harness - we're trying the Ruffwear webmaster harness next - it's supposed to be houdini-proof! |

| And I thought my Bob was some kind of genius cos he had learnt to slip out of every harness and collar to date!!! I see it must be a husky thing - i cant understand why they fight the issue when all we are doing is trying to have a peaceful walk with them!!! But then again I suppose if one wants peaceful - we should not have a husky. |

| I used whatever I got Cali with when she came but quickly learned the houdini ability these dogs have. Now she has a pretty pink harness that goes around both shoulders and snaps behind them. The leash is attached to the back or the harness which is mid back. She did great on it today. now I put it on her b4 heading out so she knows when we are going for a walk or just a potty trip. |
